>"We don't disclose production costs, it did cost over 100 million euros, we'll say that. We don't give any final costs. We also invested heavily in the engine," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a recent shareholders meeting.
Considering this stupid game has caused so much confusion and discontent.
I believe the true cost of the game was 400 million euros.
That's why Ubisoft sold their ass to Tencent just 2 weeks after the game's release.

During investors call Yves openly admitted that first delay from late November to February added at least 20 million euro to games budget. That shit easily was over 200million euro considering overall 5 years production cycle and 2 years of pre-production after Oddysey released.

Unless SW cost a crazy 800m, Shadows was more like 400m instead of 100m.
Also, notice the absolute disingenuous "over 100m".

100m was just their advertising budget. Journos get paid hide the truth. Saying the budget was "over 100m" is the same as saying your game has 2 million "players". You don't need to outright lie, just make it seem like a big deal by using big numbers.

Over 100mil usually implies a figure somewhere between 100 and 120mil. Not 150, 200 or more. Saying that the total budget was "over 100mil" means that it was significantly less than 150mil.

>They're blaming Star Wars for their game not selling? I'm sure that's one of the biggest brands on the planet.

I mean what is he supposed to say? Point fingers at the departments that fucked up?

You really can't because nobody is really responsible for anything. This isn't some spot welder being shit at his job, every single little thing in AAA vidya dev is a collaborative effort. It's all chain of command. Lead producers want a thing done a certain way, they will hand down the list of requirements to the department lead who will instruct his designers. Those designers do the thing, show it to their department lead who will present it to his producers and they decide whether it works for them or not and if not the whole game of telephone starts over again. And this is me leaving out a couple steps, especially if the involved parties are not in the same building or even on the same continent the whole process can take weeks.

It is LITERALLY impossible to nail a mechanical or systemic issue down to one person. So you want a CEO to blame the whole team(hundreds or thousands of employees) for the failure of a game? What if the graphics are amazing but the game is just really buggy? Is QA to blame? Those guys handed in detailed bug reports, they told the systems designers what isn't working. What if the mechanics are great but the story is dogshit? Well that's just highly subjective, our focus groups loved the story.

He's answering a question, he's not giving a quarterly financial report. The figures they provide in their reports are obviously somewhat accurate, they just don't go into detail what each project costs, they give overall figures. Your assumption they are braking laws by giving a vague open ended answer to a question is retarded and based on a misunderstanding of the context of this question, how it was worded and the laws at play.

Which is why i was so surprised when i heard that it, apparently, was a total of "over 100mil." strongly implying less than 150mil. But that's what MW2 cost 18 years ago. I am absolutely expecting any recent AAA game to cost, in total, around somewhere between 200 and 500mil.

running this through chatgpt, which seems to be pretty decent at scrapping the web for these kind of information, you get an estimate of:
- 220-320 million for production cost (mostly based on some leaks)
- 45-150 million for marketing

so around 265 - 470 million, since they sold out to tencent right after i would place the cost at the upper end.
there is no way the game made any profit, good riddance.

Ubishit fiscal year ends on the 31st of March. So everything released between 1st of April 2024 to 31st of March 2025 counts into the fiscal year 2025 statements.

They moved 850 million from "shit in development" to "shit released to scam customers". I circled it red in the pic.
So in the year 24/25 they released games that cost them about 850 million.
They released a bunch of no worth garbage, let's be generous and give those a worth if 150 million. This leaves us with 700 million between Outlaws and Shadows.
Considering that Outlaws was quite a trainwreck in terms of quality and that Shadows is their flagship title (and in this case their figurative lifeline), it's pretty fair to summer that Shadows had at least half of those costs, so it definitely has something along the lines of 300 to tree fiddy million in costs.
The marketing costs in that year were shy of 390 million. Again, let's be generous and say 50 million were for some of those small things and miscellaneous shit, still leaves us with 340 million for both Outlaws and Shadows. Now I know Outlaws had dinner crazy marketing, so my guess here is we need to allocate shortly more of the remaining 340 million towards Outlaws, but it's fair to say Shadows had at least 100 mill in marketing costs.
