What's a fun class/build to play through the main campaign and into MotB? Not some theorycrafted twink that only comes online at the highest levels, as are most "powergaming" builds I find on the internet.

Probably a wizard or a priest. You can cast a ton of very useful and powerful spells.
Pure spellcasters are fun in D&D 3.5

Did they have a contest to make the most generic, uninspired companions in all gaming history when writing NWN2? A dwarven warrior who loves to drink and brawl in taverns, a cocky sorceress who cannot quite contain her own power, an aloof and arrogant wizard who treats others as tools (aka edwin clone), a >muh nature elf druid, a cheeky thiefling rogue (aka annah 0.5)

>enabling AI is detrimental unless you can just right click to win
>reloading game in the open world switches you to the "main" character from the designated tracker, with a good chanse of an instantly spawned ambush right on top of you
>reloading also spawns your entire party near the main character which breaks positioning, and that bug was directly ported from NWN1 into a game with full party control
>reloading also permanently stops your own traps from triggering, and their DC is way too high to recover

Monk/priest/sacred fist
There are a tonn of cool monk loot, AND you can solo anyone. But it's tiresome to buff your balls every major fight. Dragon, giants etc you NEED these buffs, trial fight can do naked.
In the MotB get master of weapons Scythe focus to beat everyone in one round with x5 critical strike

i downloaded this game and its borderline comical how many vanity screens i need to skip through to get to the main menu. there's got to be like 15

Been playing swashbuckler/wizard myself, planning to go into eldritch knight as soon as I unlock level 3 arcane spells. Seems to be okay so far. Swashbuckler's main feat is utterly pointless against crit immunity foes (such as skeletons) but whatever, I don't remember the game being that hard anyway (playing on D&D rules). If you do plan on playing as an eldritch knight, I suggest choosing a better martial class.

Spontaneous casting is good for this game as the utility that comes with Clerics and Wizards from PnP is lost in translation. Also your casting rolls off your CHA which is a bonus as Kalach-Cha is the party face.
