According to Ross today who's in contact with secret devs, the only thing keeping Anthem from being playable offline is the Denovo server check. The actual server call in is less than 2 bytes. Multiple games literally need a single line of code. Why are companies doing this?

Because shutting down your game at any time gives them an ability to push new games on you as a replacement.

Because stealing your property is a way to coerce you into buying the new version of what they stole.

Remember when Disney tried to sell you DVDs that would self destruct after two days? Same thing pretty much.

It's a really enviable business strategy, imagine if cars, phones and home appliances bricked themselves every five years and forced you to buy a new one

Laptops kinda do because of built in GPUs and other hardware. Way more expensive than PCs and you can't upgrade them.

People like you are the reason why people in the USA look at most of Europes populations as economically illiterate and don't know what money or ownership is. A video game is a product that is made by a company and owned by it through copyright. If the consumer has an issue with a company then don't buy there shit products. LIKE ASSASSINS CREED UBI-EURO KEKS

They support iPhones from 6 years ago with day one iOS updates. On android poverty you have to wait half a year to get a buggy update if you have an S24 instead of this year's S25.

Nah, it's probably one of the guys that got fired from the original anthem theme who is pissed that the game he worked on will be killed off and his work will forever be lost. Anthem might be shit in many ways but there are more than a few cool designs in the game fom what i've seen and the flight mechanics are tauted as some of the best in videogames.

Don't make threads. You don't have anything to offer and what gets infected with you, similarly passing it on becomes as invalid.

A lot of EA games do have Denuvo or similar always online DRM which when removed would make them playable offline.

I wonder what strategy the industry is implementing to try and fight this. Ross said that they are playing dirty behind the scenes and is dropping a video about it sometime soon.

Hiring poos and "journalists" to shittalk it online and do hit pieces against it, stuffing the signing box with very clumsy bot signatures that are impossible not to detect to get it rejected (this is why it's important to keep signing even if the million was hit), using a lobby group with a .eu website that just so happens to have a website design that makes it very easy to mistake for an actual government organ. No doubt more things of questionable legality.

Probably something boring like bribes to lawmakers. If the campaign was more focused on Ross himself rather than the movement they'd likely try to discredit him instead

>Why are companies doing this?
Because they are pursuing pure profit and nothing else. If you don't have old games to play, you might be inclined to buy the new one. And getting some dev to dredge up the code to Anthem, figure out whatever fucked build system they probably had and forgot about, figuring out whatever the process to pushing an update is and all that crap just isn't worth it to them because it doesn't directly result in the customer paying them more money, even if the amount of work needed to make the game playable is actually simple and trivial.
