Did World of Warcraft's peak in terms of popularity ever rival Fortnite's peak? If not, what was it comparable to in terms of popularity? I remember WoW being everywhere in the 2000s as a kid, but I don't know if it ever reached the peak of Fortnite between 2018 and 2021.

No Fortnite and many other games far surpassed WoW's popularity.

Are you retarded?
Fortnite is a free game that's been on like 18 different consoles.
Wow is a paid game that costs a monthly fee and is PC only.
Guess which had more players you mongoloid

i started playing in vanilla. you didn't tell anyone at school you played it. the south park episode made it a bit more socially acceptable, but you still didn't tell anyone but your friends you played it. nowadays, kids are doing fortnite dance competitions in the cafeteria at lunch. fortnite wins this one

WOW released before social media's rise so you can't even compare them.

Popularity is much more than just the size of player base.

Probably not. Even mobile games like Genshin have surpassed WoW at its peak. The world has changed.

wow is pc exclusive and requires a subscription to play

more people have played ffxiv than wow just because its on playstation, pc, xbox, etc.

So? Please don't tell me you want to argue that FFXIV's peak even came close to 5% of WoW's peak at the end of the 2000s. Like I said, popularity isn't just about the size of the player base, especially if what you said is true about more people having tried FFXIV. FFXIV had 0% cultural impact, while WoW had significant cultural impact. WoW transcended gaming and went mainstream in places where gaming was looked down upon.

10-12 million ACTIVE subs is insane. Popularity in this context is relative.

WoW was just some niche elves and dragons shit for shut-in nerds. Fortnite was more or less peak norm 'gamer' like fifa/madden/cod. Not sure how people think wow attracted the most everyday people

WoW's popularity and cultural impact was unprecedented but ultimately it's a PC only MMORPG released at a time where online gaming was in its infancy. Fortnite is on every major console and live service games are a much larger part of the market than they were in 2005.

I think Counter Strike and Fortnite would be a better comparison. A lot of people were playing wow, but everyone was playing counter strike.
