We have 10 years of this slop now and the obituaries of games that would have been good if not falling for this meme get longer every day. We already have Slay the Spire and Nuclear Throne, we don't need any more

I'm not good at games, so they become too repetitive replaying the beginning stages over and over again. I get bored and quit playing

The point of these games is to be played over and over again. The perma death isnt really a hindrance since these games can be beaten in between a hour.

Etg is the worst of its kind, the first 2-3 hours are terrible, then it hits its stride for like 4-5 hours, and then the weapon pool is bloated and it goes back to being terrible.
t. 100% the game. It's no Isaac, it's no Nuclear throne, it's no pic related

Voidigo suffers the same as gungeon in that a lot of the weapons are just jokes and all the items are samey. There’s like 9 different boot / button items, they’re boring. Love the game doe. NT is better.
t. beat it on impossible

Only reason I tried etg was because we were coming off the heels of NT's horrendous 1.0 release that didn't get fixed for over half a year.
Etg had polish but lacked substance or feel. It wanted to be a mashup of Isaac and NT and was simply worse on both metrics

The point of these games is to pad out your game idea to something the audience might find palatable at your asking price.

It's lazy shit used as a crutch for people with no design experience, then it caught on as studios realized they could do the same thing and only have to deliver 1/4th of an actual title.
Hell, FromSlop drones are such cattle they play one with reused fucking assets from a better game.

My issue with etg is that isaac and nt had already existed for a long time by the time gungeon came out, and it didnt really add much new other than a dodge roll. In many ways it was technically the best roguelite twinstick shooter - it has the best visuals and controls, and gameplay felt more satisfying than others, but i had already burnt out on the genre by the time it was released.

>dude wouldn't it be funny if 80% of guns and items were complete and utter dogshit, and you were only able to get good guns and items once every 20 runs, and if there was an anti-fun boss dps cap, and there was a rat that steals your items if you don't immediately use them, and there was an ammo system that made the few good guns you get unusable after 5 minutes and you had to go back to the shitty starting weapon lol

come on now, you were mostly right and then you come up with this nonsense. You can carry much more than two guns. Each with its own ammo counter.

I have a love/hate relationship with Spelunky 2.
The game is really fun but the instakills are so frustrating. I still have trouble with moleman and olmec which both can instantly end your run even if you get an early Kapala. Olmec is so frustrating I've been trying to learn the skip to get the Ankh but I still keep fucking it up.

Fun fact, if you have the Emperor and the Lazer rifle equipped, the gun will empty out its entire mag and destroy bosses near instantly.

The big problem with most of roguelites is that they are supposed to bring variety of runs through random, but they end up playing exactly the same either because whatever you get doesn't change the playstyle, or you just go for the same build every time. Also unlocking shit through grind feels like a chore.

When the game launched it was extremely stingy with ammo drops. It wasn't uncommon to never see ammo.
Layer on top of it the rat will steal drops you leave behind you would never really be able to do meaningful ammo management except to use your infinite ammo starter pistol or spend shells in the shop if one did show up.

yeah i do remember thinking this was cool tbf, but my memory of it was that enemy bullets would break the tables quite quickly making it generally a bit pointless. might be completely misremembering though, its been years since i played it and even then i only played it for like 3 or 4 hours. either way, the table flipping mechanic and dodge roll wasn't enough to keep me interested after having spent so much time in isaac and nt.

i got filtered by spelunky 2. i was pretty good at spelunky 1 but spelunky 2 was just too difficult for me, only ever beat the easy ending.

that said, i learnt how to beat olmec consistently with just vlads cape or spring shoes. I would recommend just learning that method because i think its easier to learn than the skip (i tried to learn the skip too but never managed it lol)

for moleman after his first roll you can run at him and throw a bomb for a consistent kill if you get the timing right. easiest way to kill him imo even if it does cost a bomb.

Roguelikes do not retain progression on death at all, and rely on you getting better at playing the game to do better at the game

Roguelites are games that retain progression on death and allow you to mindlessly do whatever to get enough pointerinos to unlock more stats to win

Which is why roguelites are the videogame equivalent of Joss Whedon whispering marvel tier quips into your ear for hours at a time
