Because on PC you need good hardware to run game. Everything runs piss poor on PC because nobody is bothering to optimize for PC. Meanwhile you can buy a console at fraction of PC price, and get very good performance, and play on a 55-65" OLED TV, meanwhile PC gamers are stuck on the LCD of choice IPS, and not even dreaming of playing at higher resolution of 1440p or 4k, let alone a monitor that's bigger than 23 or god forbid OLED. PC gaming today is a meme, it's no longer something that people can afford to do, only tiny minority can keep up with modern nvidia prices.

The best part is that you have all the files for the game on your PC and can do whatever you want with them as opposed to your PC bricking itself if you look at it wrong. A lack of annoying DRM is a far greater concern than whether or not the game has a physical release and Steamworks DRM is at least easy to circumvent.

DRM isn't even that big issue. Most of PC games never had DRM, Steam is far worse DRM than whatever few non-steam games had. Also you don't own your Steam games, they'll be gone one day. This is misleading because it's counting both digital and physical sales. Normally that wouldn't matter, but Ready or Not was only censored so that the PHYSICAL release could be on store shelves. It did not have to be censored in order to be sold digitally, which is why the more graphic Outlast Trials is on console fully uncensored since it did not release physically.
So if you're arguing that the censorship was worth it, only the sales of the physical version are relevant.

Before Steam became so ubiquitous, games from major publishers were using worse and worse DRM.
Games with overly invasive DRM, games with limited installs, games with one-time use licenses, games with their own launchers and account systems, etc.
Compared to that Steam is much more benign.

I've been buying games for 3 decades, only games with any invasive DRM is Bioshock 1, and maybe Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I don't think I have any other games with any DRM, it really was a "non issue". Steam is far bigger issue, since it's a faux storefront, since not only do you not have access to all of the games, but you'll never own the games you buy on steam. You don't have physical copy of a game you buy on steam
