the select button was so useless they swapped it with a share button (even more useless if you ask me) and a big ass touchpad that has been only used in like two games: killzone shadow fall for the drone and gravity rush if I'm not mistaken

they should add more button to the middle. With every game having 2-3 menus and camera mode and voice/chat/streaming/screenshot and every other button already being used in many games you really run short on options to rebind shit. Rarely can you even configure circle or sliding menus or toggle button shortcuts.

Instead we get dedicated non-rebindable screenshot/share/gamechat buttons

it was a weird thing back then because analog sticks didn't exist until the Playstation Analog Controller (with weirdly elongated handles and concave thumbsticks) showed up in the latter half of the PS1's lifespan
a lot of games only worked off of the 'Digital' (aka DPAD, shoulder buttons and face buttons), while a limited selection of games supported the Analog mode (all of Digital + 2 analog sticks and their respective buttons)
a lot of early PS2 games also straight up still had the same design, example being Armored Core 3 and Silent Line
