Its not a murder mystery in the original sense but it does involve murder, you are not the detective tasked to solve the disappearances other than by "Watson" representative (Bear.) You aren't needing to use your brain to solve the mystery at least you are not expected to at any point to guess right, every option is fed to you, no failure from wrongly solving the mystery as the game's storyline handholds you in that regard. If it were to follow the murder mystery rules set up by knox it would fail because of another rule stated previously you can't use magical means/highly advanced technology/unknown poisons to cause the murders to happen to make it a murder mystery.

I just can't get past all the fucking talking in P5. I keep picking it up then dropping it right back down for something else. P3 is legitimately more fun to actually play because of this. How the fuck did p5 blow up so much. It's fucking boring with the actual fun parts lasting 30 minutes at a time before getting sucked into 2 hours of exposition. My sister platinum'd it, though. If they make P6 I honestly hope they go back to procedurally-generated areas for the main story dungeons (but hopefully much more elaborate ones, and carrying over fighting personas instead of endless reskins) with shuffle-time which is far more engaging than negotiation. Tartarus/TV World is unironically more engaging after the first playthrough because Palaces will go the exact same way every time.
It'd be nice if they could mix the two somehow but still.
