Charm, far better level design, less padding and retreading levels, better challenge, better controls, actual satisfying challenge to 100% instead of just gay easter egg hunt

For me, Crash is just more charismatic. The villains are way more fun. Dr. N. Cortex is a better character than Bowser.
The sound effects sounded cooler too. Like the noise a wimps fruit makes when you collect it is better than the coin one in Mario. Also the sound wooden crates make when break them is better than the brick block sound, and the wooden crates look more aesthetic too.
Crash's victory dance is cooler.
I prefer Crash 2 & 3 over 1 though.

Mario 64's movement feels like ass. You turn like a boat, bounce off walls, slope physics are nonsensical, literal invisible walls are scattered throughout levels. Not to mention you have like a dozen different jump variants when all you want is a fucking camera that is actually looking where you're going instead of shoved up Mario's asshole. Levels are so basic and boring, usually just a few platforms and enemies just haphazardly slapped down with no sense of flow or intentional design.

Even one star is a slog as it is, but having to repeat each level a half dozen times made me drop it a few hours in. Utterly, miserable unfun game.
