It is so Rimworld streamers can title the videos with clickbait titles and "exciting" content where there is constant action. It also means that their story will generally end very quickly and they only have to make a few videos before creating another clickbait playthrough.

Then the people watching seem to think that is how the game is meant to be played. People generally don't tune in to watch video #482 of farmer John peacefully living with his family in a cabin for in game decades. That being said I prefer to play Rimworld the opposite of how everyone on youtube plays the game where the most exciting thing that happens is a rabid squirrel.
