>>716094672 (OP)Single player games have to compete with low price indie titles in a way that most other goods donโt- you canโt buy โindieโ ground beef (in fact, small farm products are usually more expensive, not less). The costs to create and indie game are still not thaaaat high so most indie devs will price their game as low as possible, since they know the best chance they have at wealth is wide appeal to an audience that comes from YouTube/social media recommendations.
Multiplayer games on the other hand, are highly competitive with each other because most people will only juggle 1-3 at a time and the market is very saturated. Furthermore, those games need a critical mass of players to even function, so theyโre best bet is to worry about player count first and money later- that way they can establish themselves as a competitor and then add in monetization as the game goes on.
TLDR- while the cost to make single player AAA games has increased, prices have been kept low by low cost indie competition. Multiplayer games benefit more from high player counts than from entry prices
