Darkwood is like the opposite because you basically get weaker as the game goes, there are permanent consequences to death, etc. The nights are just random events too, and some are pretty hard to survive. The only thing I can think that was similar was SH4, where your apartment is slowly taken over by hauntings and the game erodes your sense of safety
