I got the game 2 weeks ago and i literally cant stop playing it. I have 100 hours on it and im only about to beat moonlord. And i was playing with a friend the whole time

what are some good mods for this game after me and my friend finish vanilla
Anonymous No.716122746 [Report] >>716128580
Thorium is a good start. Still got that vanilla feel while adding tons of new stuff to the game.
Never download a mod called Calamity unless you have high-functioning autism.

calamity is unironically great. yes all of the new items invalidates pretty much all of the vanilla items with very few exceptions but thats kind of the fucking point.

Just got back into it like 2 days ago, downloaded a mod for the first time. Calamity has seriously made this game way more fresh for me, as well as playing it with a mate.

Vanilla is great too, but after 10 years the game loses its wonder.

I enjoyed the first half. Exploring the world for the first time, finding new biomes, secrets, getting cool unexpected stuff for your character, it's 10/10. I didn't like the second half much where all of that discovery was mostly gone. I liked a few of the boss fight (the empress was my favorite, I spent a while trying to do her on one-hit mode) but I never finished this game. I always get burnt out just before moonlord. Do any of the mods bring back the sense of discovery or is that long gone? I'm not into glorified boss rushes

First time I've heard someone prefer the first half, post-hardmode was my cup of tea

>do mods bring back the sense of discovery
Not to the scale that playing the vanilla game for the first time does; you're still playing the same core game after all. But there's lots of new weapons, ores and items. Calamity in particular tends to be boss heavy though.

you replay the game again, this time
>up difficulty
>switch corruption/crimson
>set up house in a different biom
>play a different class
>do bosses in a different order

optionally. Play a mem seed

Pre-and-post HM are basically different games even with the core combat system, one is basically open-world Castlevania+Minecraft and the other is dedicated 2D combat and boss fighting game.

then remove them from the fucking game (mod)

>>716125085
both are good, problem with hardmode is that it's the powercreep arc.
Melee gets replaced with pseudo ranged
Most of the map is already explored and connected (skybridge/hellbridge)
all movement limitations are removed, falldamage ceases to exist
fights become either bullet hell or messy enemy spam.

You never have to resort to build a bridge out of dirt to reach some gold, then a random worm kicks you off in the darkness and you somehow grapple to something before shattering on the ground. Then you place a torch and suddenly you are in a new biome.
First time playing Terraria was fucking magical.

>have now spent more time gathering resources and building prototypes on a different world than where I started
>still haven't spawned a single new NPC in the original world
And then I remembered the hardmode explosion which may very well fuck up one or more of my towns. What a stressful game.

Consolaria, Thorium, Vitality and Spirit Reforged should be your go-to.
If you're really hooked then whos to stop you from trying different mods later like cal*mity, but don't try it first. It doesn't bode well with other mods because it has post-ML progression and those are mostly just new ores and bosses that are autistically hard.

it's not required, but can help. The guide and other npcs help guide you to what your next main progression objective should be, but knowing about other optional side stuff can be helpful. The only mandatory thing that isn't too obvious is how to spawn the hell boss, but even that does have some hints.

I don't think you ever need to consult a wiki for anything other than wall of flesh. I think the guide only gives you a vague hint about it. There are probably some people who finished the game pre hardmode thinking they did everything

I got about halfway through infernum calamity a year ago and I see they've barely updated it.

I'm about to finish it but now I'm wondering if it would be more fun to instead play Fargos dlc for calamity and do eternity mode instead of infernum. Has anyone tried both and has an opinion?

>>716131942
Other npcs, particularly the armsdealer, also give some hints. But I do think the hints are overall not enough to really figure it out on your own. Though if you're lucky (unlucky?) it's not impossible to summon the boss completely by accident.
>>716131973
Yeah it's nothing like noita but a lot of the stuff you can find stops being relevant later. Like knowing about floating islands gets you some nice movement upgrades, or the optional early game bosses like slime king and the yeti that don't drop much of value if you don't go for them early. For the late game knowing which monsters drop accessories to help your preferred damage type is pretty good. I can't remember how much the in game bestiary helps with that since I never really needed to look at it.

Duke Fishtron was my favourite, i figured out the exact equipment and movement strat to kill him every single time, it was sick. I played a server with my mate and he just watched my screen while i murdered him single handedly. Empress Light was the only boss in the game i flat out cant do, she's fucking impossible

>>716126245
i didnt like the happiness update because yeah it was cool as hell that i could do teleports but promoting potential interracial/interspecial relations between the goblin tinkerer and the red hair mechanic lady made me uncomfortable. But also the Terraformer exists which just means once you beat the game you can have the relaxing task of purifying the wurld

You don't need the wiki to beat the game but there's some optional content that's pretty cryptic without the wiki. There's three easily missable optional bosses who I recommend looking up how to fight. Deerclops (early-midgame), Duke Fishron (endgame), and Empress of Light (endgame).

Deerclops is so shit, it felt so unearned when i finally killed it after i died 30 times in a row to his stun attacks because he doesn't despawn after player death. Theres no real good strat to him either, its basically just tank him somehow with pre hardmode gear

Why do none of the mods you mentioned have equipment that goes beyond the vanilla line up, not even as super late game "minute to midnight" gear. I don't get this, you suffer through the entire game probably always wishing you had more speed, armor, regen whatever and then at the end you still just the vanilla end game stuff?

This game was best before they introduced the jungle and the hallow. Just exploring, and crafting stuff for more exploring.

Adding shitloads of content is commendable but what the game needed most was to have bigger worlds, things on the other side of the ocean.

It's like a... terrarium... that's too crowded with stuff.

the intended strat is to stay close and loop his melee attacks while dodging them. He has a strict pattern for doing the longer icicles or the short ones on both sides. You also have to hope for some decent luck on the shadow hands not being too accurate.

>one is basically open-world Castlevania+Minecraft and the other is dedicated 2D combat and boss fighting game.
This game isn't Minecraft and never was. It was always an "open world sandbox boss rush game". It's just that by the time you start defeating mechanical bosses, you've already pretty much explored the whole map so the exploration part of the game is no longer there.
Perhaps if the game was expanded beyond the ocean or the sky after you beat some bosses you'd like it more?

I miss little things like stacking aglet and cactus being obstacles, but who the fuck complains about the jungle?

My only complaint is that they continued adding stuff to early game past hardmode. They should've stopped after bee and ice biome. So many things became redundant. Who even bothers with Night's Edge anymore. Magic felt like something special, but no, players must be able to play any class as early as possible.

>magic storage: extremely helpful to have all your items in one place, this is the one mod that never gets turned off for me
>ore excavator: just a time saver, also you can use it to quickly build long wooden platforms for arenas
The following ones go more into circumventing game mechanics for QoL, so it entirely depends on if you think they're cheating or not.
>fargos' mutants: adds new npcs such as the deviant which sells spawners for rare enemies like mimics, increases fishing efficiency (golden rod shoots out 5 lures for example), craftable hellevator, craftable basic npc housing, lets water fountains force the area into the surrounding biome
>alchemist lite: adds npcs which let you buy any vanilla potion, one that lets you buy basic accessories with the shop expanding as you beat bosses, one that lets you buy treasure bags from bosses you beat or crafting materials from enemy drops, and another that sells items useful for boss arenas
