Why can't anyone make a good mmo?
Wasn't this shit made by like 6 dudes in 1999
>>716125583 (OP)>implying it's the same game from '99it's nothing but faggots and w*men at jagex.
>>716125583 (OP)If it released today you would dismiss it as having shit indie graphics
The only reason people played runescape was because it was super accessible, even the biggest normalfags in my school played it because you could play it on a library computer and crap.
The reason so many still play it today is because 59% of them are third worlders with toasters that can't run anything else, rest 40.9% are bot and the rest 0.1% are actual western players
I can't make one because netcode is hard because the interwebs are full of malicious people so you need to have strong security practices on top of making the things required to get the game running.
>playing fagschool queerscape
>>716125583 (OP)>a good mmo?Because that's so subjective.
Making games (even MMOs) isn't that hard, but getting funding and players for them, is. It's a big gamble to take, when you could use the same time&money to make something less risky.
>>716129318Purely judging by the images why does the world look bigger than on

>>716125583 (OP)MMOs were replaced with gachaslop for the younger generations. Like how MOBAs replaced RTS.
>>716131106Because brighter shores is literally just a bunch of rooms connected to each other. You can't actually see anything beyond that room until you enter it.
Makes it feel more like dungeoneering from runescape rather than an actual world.
>>716131106Because the second one has plants and terrain height rise up at the edges and make a barrier suggesting you are enclosed to that central space but on runescape the terrain slopes down gently suggesting you can just walk there and explore
>>716131106It's literally more zoomed out (a wider camera lens). You can zoom out in RuneScape too, but that particular image is very zoomed in.
>>716131430Younger generations not playing certain genres is a good thing. A MMO doesn't need millions of active players to be enjoyable.
>>716135376The first M in MMO means "massively", so yes, by definition you need a lot of players. Otherwise it just feels lifeless and empty.
Is there a singleplayer RPG with that kind of point and click adventure game puzzle quest design?
I'd imagine the obra dinn/tunic/la mulana fags(aka me) would coom their pants if they had a big ass RPG world full of puzzles and unknown mechanics to fuck with.
>>716131519dungeoneering was simultaneously kino and the final nail in the RS3 coffin.
>wow tourists on their yearly mmo migration
Because MMO devs only cater to metatroons. Leveling is meaningless because it gets in the way of endgame so it has to be streamlined. Dungeons can't take more than fifteen minutes because metatroons need to get the rewards quickly so they can queue for the next dungeon so they need to be streamlined. Classes have to be simple enough to mindlessly follow a rotation while you dodge piss puddles in raid so they need to be streamlined. Side content has to offer lateral progression of player power or else it's pointless and metatroons will screech about it, so it has to be streamlined.
Every single issue with MMOs is because devs listen to and obey the most retarded and vile part of the playerbase, a part which typically makes up a single digit percent, and they end up alienating normal players, condensing their audience down to metatroons and shit eaters suffering from sunk cost syndrome.
It's a dead genre. Let it go.
Too many Indians/Chinese/Russians on the Internet now days. Unless you know a pretty good amount about proper server configuration and firewalls, then it would be cost prohibitive to host servers for it as you'll get flooded by fake requests. This is the same reason why there are no small sites on the Internet anymore, and everything is Facebook, twitter, YouTube, Google.
>>716136980How long does the migration last?
>>716137254Until the next expansion when they come crawling back
>>716136142Do you really care about players that aren't even on your server?
>>716136992stop playing wow and wow likes, they are the only ones that have this problem.
don't come into mmo discussions and act as if problems with mmos are the problems wow has and don't say its a mmo problem when its a wow problem.
