>>716128956 (OP)It's contrarianism. A good rule of thumb is:
>if /v/ spends its time mostly seething about something, it's good>if /v/ spends its time mostly laughing at something, it's badFromSoft has been making consistently great games for more than a decade. /v/ was one of the earliest champions of Demon's Souls, with people importing the game when it was still JP-only. With Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring bringing FromSoft into the mainstream, it's no longer socially acceptable to admit that their games are still good. They're not only bad now, they've always been bad - you just didn't realize it. And so on and so forth.
/v/ also can't differentiate between disliking something and something being "bad". A lot of people here think that things are fundamentally bad just because they dislike them. Combine this with /v/'s inherent contrarianism and its tendency toward schizophrenic thinking and you get the seething disdain for FromSoft. Everyone is just pretending these games are good. It's a conspiracy. And if it's not, they're just cattle. Etc.
