i use component on my wii and i can't go back. it makes everything look a little less blurry. makes an even bigger difference when you keep the image at 4:3. but even if you don't it still looks better. espectially if you soft mod your system and disable the deflicker effect.

Actually the best most of the times, even fucking GTA San Andreas was better on the PS2 than it was on PC at the time.
As for the other consoles, many developers lamented the impossibility to do on other hardware what they could do on PS2, with Burnout being the most famous one.

one of the first games that comes to mind is metal arms glitch in the system, i got it for the gamecube and it looked really good, but i originally wanted it for the XBOX because i know it would pbably look even better. ps2 version looked the worst. even back when i was super young this was my approach to a game i was excited about. even back then i knew the ps2 version would look worst.

the ps2 has enough advantages people do not need to lie and say that it also had the best multiplats because it wasnt the truth in most cases perhaps any case if all 3 consoles were involved unless it was just independent mistakes or oversights of the people making the ports.

that guys shovelware comment is incredibly important because the ps2 came out during a time where the average household didnt even have a computer or internet. so many of us were flying blind when we bought a game. and either we got advice from some gaming magazine, our friends, or we had to just take a leap of faith. ps2 was super easy to get burned on if you bought a game at gamestop or whatever that look cool but could just end up being trash. this was exponentially less of a problem on the other two consoles.

the ps2 was the cheapest console to get published on which is one reason why so many people chose the system. they also had the least involved quality control demands of the 3 consoles as well and this is all documented and talked about online. by the time that 2007 rolled around and the next generation of consoles were out, the majority of households had internet and comuters in their house and they could research shit themselves. in 2001-2004 a lot of people didnt so a console having an unreal amount of trash games was a problem for consumers.

im not arguing this as a fan boy i think every console of that generation had its own strengths and all 3 were worth owning if you had the ability to do it.

Most games had lower resolutions than that. Like 512x400 and lower. Some 60fps games like Ridge Racer V and Tekken Tag were 640x240 but each frame was rendered with 1 vertical shift in pixels, corresponding to the interlaced fields of 480i. In motion it would give the illusion of 640x480 but with even more aliasing than had it been a full frame. I think Devil May Cry also was rendered liked this. Most later games just settled for the lower res and had full frames, especially if the game had progressive scan support. This was all because the frame buffer wasn’t big enough (back in the day referred to as the video memory). This is why PS2 looks like shit on HDTVs and emulators need to deinterlace

The jaggies were caused by the interlaced rendering. To fit into the 4MB frame buffer aka VRAM instead of making 640x480 frames and throwing every other line away, they generated 640x240 frames (or possibly lower like 512x240), one frame for each interlaced field (odd line frame, even line frame). Some modern console games used similar techniques such as Mario Odyssey. But the problem was, a full frame generated with half the lines thrown away is still a higher res image and super sampled and less jaggy compared to rendering a smaller frame. This caused the jaggies. On some early HD sets, in motion it would toss out one field and line double the other resulting in progressive frames that were 640x240 until the motion stopped
