I played it just recently, it was alright. The main issue with it is that the ds didn't have an analog stick. I actually like the way the visuals were updated, especially with high rez mode enabled on the emulator.

It’s pretty great. It’s just a well designed 3D world to explore. There’s very few gimmick powerups or moments an explicit objective is given to you. You just have to read the hint and use Mario’s moveset to figure the rest out.
Why aren’t there many games like this? Even Spyro and Banjo didn’t quite do this.

I played 64 on release and I always hated it. The music and atmosphere are amazing but the controls and camera are pure cancer. Dire Dire Docks and Rainbow Ride are among the worst levels in the entire Mario franchise. They're Lost Levels tier awful. Nostalgia is the only reason anyone would pick it over the Galaxy games. Even 3D World destroys it.

Yes really. A game with a shit turn radius and fucked momentum is worse than games with objectively better controls and a larger moveset. No 3D games controls like 64 because it wasn't very good, your nostalgia isn't worth shit.

Why do people pretend Mario was any good before or after 64 is beyond me.
