Hypothetically asking, if this wasn't the first every Kusoge of the Year, what game do you think would fall into that category? The Bouncer? Beyond the Beyond? Tsugunai? Netherrealm games?

Xenosaga 2's combat has a good skeleton to it and really just needed less focus on hitting the correct elemental weakness on top of the boost/stock combo gameplay.

I've never seen anyone moan about XS2's combat; no, the worst part was the GSC. 100%ing it was AWFUL.

I see people complain about it all of the time when the game is mentioned. Both that random encounters take too long to beat (only true in the second half of the game) and that bosses are too one dimensional where you stock up and kill them in a single combo.

XS2 was fine (besides the English voice recast, which isn't an issue if you're playing in Japanese).

Xenosaga 2 is a rogue project that was taken away from the series director by namco under promises that the new team wouldnt fuck it up, only for them to go rogue and fuck it up. The series director had to make a browser game and a VN on the DS explaining the actual plot of XS2, which is what XS3 is based on. The lead writer for the xenosaga series, soraya saga, announced that she would quit video game work entirely and returned to only writing novels.
Anyone defending its story is objectively wrong.

Well, we'll see what happens next time there's a XS thread. Keep my eyes more peeled.

XS2 is a huge mess, but playing through it makes XS3 seem like a peerless masterpiece- so it's worth it for that.
