Not really, but I know that in a sea of shit there will still be good games coming out now and then, and most will simply be "okay" but have enough overlap with my interests that they're playable. It's been like this since video games were invented.

Romero is wrong, actually. The future isn't AAA studios stealing ideas from indies, but AAA studios ceasing to exist. The budget that led to modern AAA games will no longer be available to publishers and developers. It's that simple.

This. The industry as it is now is long past its prime. We need a hard reset, to wipe out the old blood and let the funding go towards developers who actually try and make good shit.

the people working in AAA who really understand what made bg3 and clair obscur so successful are the ones shitting themselves and telling gamers to tone down their expectations. the defining characteristic of these games is that they were made with love, passion and a lot of time in companies that are run by devs. meanwhile AAA is run by a managerial class that hires and fires with a revolving door, whips the devs into working as quickly as possible, and everything is made with a rigid game design doc that forbids personal touch or innovation. more than likely these managers aren't going to fire themselves, which is what would be required for these companies to change, so instead they will likely cover each others' asses and let the studios go bankrupt instead

John Romero at no point has had any idea what would or would not be successful, and it took Carmack's technical autism to enable any of his retarded whims.

back to the gas station, buddy

While Romero is right, what the AAA studios will actually do is try to imitate what the smaller studios did but at scales that they are used to (and are unsustainable, so same old same old).

>They make AA studios go "We need to start doing this"
Except they don't, not in any way that matters. Because Executives are fucking retarded, they'll look at the most superficial aspects of the game, then tell their codemonkeys
>Do this, but also add as much monetization as possible, also add [absolute random nonsense from 'interest group data' that i have no idea how they got]

For AAA studios to go "We need to start doing this" that would require them to know why BG3 or Clair Obscur was popular, and they literally can't.

The AAA industry? No. Smaller players have always been making good games here and there, that I'm sure will continue. There will always be people who actually want to make video games.

AAA execs will force devs to make single player games, but full of bullshit so that nobody buys them, learns the wrong lesson, and goes back to whatever multiplayer trend is current. The cycle will always repeat.

This is 100% God speak fact.
AAA run by parasites, who are making product worse. In the 2025 you don't need 100 people to make a game. 30 is max

>Can the "Blumhouse" strategy work?
You spread your personal in small teams, all simultaneously doing different projects in the most profitable genre (horror for movies), you release and sell products in the specific time frame throughout the year so even of iff someone else beat your movie on this weekend, you have another product the next week and another next month etc.
So its a shitty conveyer, with rare diamonds sprinkle in. You can waste 300 million on 10 bad movies and get 600 on one good. Plus tax returns from all the bad movies cover your future projects.

No because they will learn all the wrong lessons
Devs will look at BG3's intricate battle system and its RPG reactivity and will go "This is what audiences want: More Bioware dating sim tumblrslop!"
Always assume the worst case scenario, and good luck finding good stuff elsewhere
