Hayter's voice got so goofier with each new entry, that now the dust has settled, there are fans that defend Kiefer's Big Boss, which btw sounded like a real person, not a cartoon character.
The only downside was Snake barely talking due to Kiefer's work hour being so expensive.
MGSV feels like it is just Miller talking 90% of the time.

Snake Eater if unfucked:

Vietnam. Shirtless Big Boss comfortable with war, like at leisure, on holiday, riding huey (no homo, heli), one man army, single occupant sitting on the floor looking nowhere. War inside.

No communication with pilot until patted on the back and pointed to somewhere. Pilot nods. Big Boss drops into water. Heli departs.

Several days later sneaking through the trees, fast, stop, listen, again. Aware this time of something but getting into position.
Birds etc signal gook patrol. Unnatural. Acrued something, taking education institution into life and it screams. He hears. Growls. They hear it, sounds feirce, but more than expected, above other animals, above them. They move in the opposite direction to avoid confrontation. Like they can placate a defender with distance, abusing elsewhere. He roars.
At night they share stories with some locals, use the fire to act as evil, power, promise an end to illusions, hope real, established, access for everyone in everything, ideals they make up, self deluded to believe what they serve is what they dream.

After they leave Big Boss checks them all. Seals teeth. Gives seeds. Removes cataracs. Does it gently but firmly. Doesn't ask, isn't refused. Leaves wordlessly.

Follows patrol. Marks caches, tunnels. When they meet up and communicate that way is clear to advance he uses their radio to inform their intent.

Stands against a tree as some pass. They safe don't check anywhere. Pass by close. Sensing where is felt safe he stays out of, respects. Doesn't want it lost. Progress in their hearts. He makes the unsafe feel a little scarier. Where darkness and unknown is, he is. Communicates in undeniable ways. Rolls a ball to a pissing gook who had it near where he slept. What none will believe until they all have the same experiences.
