NTA but for most entertainment products and especially movies and games, the vastest majority of sales both in copies and in actual revenue (from copies sold) are made in the first couple months after the game is released. For KCD for example although it likely had more sales than average over its lifetime given its elevation to cult hit, the vast majority were still front-loaded. Unlike its predecessor, KCD II does not have the benefit of being widely loved due to the community backlash, so the sales it has made thus far are pretty much all it's going to make. They might make some more money here and there from Steam Sales, but they're not going to be getting the same drip-feed that KCD received over the years. And that itself was minuscule.

I can't comment on how much money it made, since I don't know either the absolute numbers of sales or the budget numbers. But I can say with confidence that whatever it's made so far, that's pretty much all it's going to make.

I just find it funny that when a game does well or better than the devs expected, they straight up say how many copies it sold. So when you get some bullshit like "X players played it" or "game was played for a total of X minutes so far" you know there's a reason they're scared of directly stating the number of sold copies.

The first game sold well because it was like 2 bucks on Steam for the majority of its existence, and it's an 8 year old game. Its actual pace of sales is much slower than KCD2's pace of sales, KCD2 took like a week to pass a million while KCD1 needed way longer. Once KCD2 starts selling for 2 bucks on Steam, it'll start selling like hotcakes because that's what happened with the first game.
