Ubisoft CEO responds to Stop Killing Games, says "Nothing is eternal"
>>716154159 (OP)You will never be white

What a dumbshit way to phrase his ideology that you don't own something you've paid for.
Y'alls own fault for treading the slippery slope of digital games though.

>>716154159 (OP)>Nothing is eternalYeah but we can actually prolong the inevitable. That's what humans do every single day.
>>716154159 (OP)It's so funny they would rather pay money for shills and lobbyists to die on that hill instead of spending 0.1% of the game budget in making an end of life patch that removes the server connection.
>>716154159 (OP)"Nothing is eternal" says man who expects exponentially increasing profit year over year despite logic dictating that to be impossible

>>716155381>stop being retards and not buy perma online gamesGames are mostly becoming more digital
Even if you buy a game physically, they need patches or updates so then it's part digital anyways.
There's literally no way of doing this.
>>716155565Given how your precious corpos are all too eager to do that themselves whenever they please, what goes around, comes around, shill.
>>716154159 (OP)well.. their company sure isn't.

>>716158581It's small but hey, the have 5 MEPs. Not bad for such a young and tiny party. Iirc in the Netherlands and/or Germany they got people elected in the parliament.
There should be a legally required number of years you have to maintain a server for anything with multiplayer functionality. Something reasonable like 10 years. Nobody should expect servers forever but we can at least expect a minimum number of years or if they don't want to do that allow people to start private servers. Americucks won't do it but maybe Europe will.

>>716169043Watch him move goalposts into "it's not worth playing anyway".
>>716154159 (OP)But he's right. Games that exist entirely in an online setting and require a revolving door of users joining and interacting will die eventually. SKG thinks getting an empty server you can host privately "saves" the game from being "killed". It doesn't, the game dies when the players stop playing, the game literally is the players. SKG is just preservation autism branded as a pro consumer movement.
>>716169307>the game dies when the players stop playingWhich should be solely the choice of the players themselves, not the company.
>>716154159 (OP)Of course it isn't, but that's not a blank cheque to make things to have the shortest possible lifespan. Just release the fucking server-side software after EoL, it won't kill them.
>>716169307There's that and the fact that skg isn't about saving your game but rather THE game.

Not to mention none of these are retroactive so the game your fighting for will still be dead, you're going to be one step behind every single time and you'll never do the thing you should have done in the first place and taken responsibility for your own actions.
>>716170970>Schadenfreude is to take pleasure in other people's misery or misfortuneSo SKG.
>>716154159 (OP)>Are purchased games products or services?I always find it funny when articles and companies bring up this question as if there was even a debate, at least not in the EU where SKG is based in, cause the EU already ruled more than 10 years ago, in 2012 to be precise, that purchased games, even digital ones(which include the concept of licenses) can be resold cause they are products, and therefore have all the associated consumer rights.
Never, never ever trust journalism and companies when they question if something is or isnt something, cause 9 times out of 10 the issue has already been LEGALLY resolved many years ago and they're just trying to make it look like an ambiguous gray area where things aren't certain, when as a matter of facts they are clear as water.

>>716171232>why is SKG petitioning the EU to better define service games, and to allow them to to die so long as the end date is defined?that is not what SKG is asking.
SKG is exactly asking the EU to better define rules of what developers can or can't do and/or must do when they decide to drop support for a game which requires an online connection, either for authentication or to be played in multiplayer as its main component, EXACTLY cause the EU has already defined games as products.
In short, what SKG is saying is "hey EU, you already defined games as products, yet these companies are treating them as services, taking them away from us when they stop supporting them. we know it's their right to stop support, but since you already ruled they are products, you must add precises laws and regulation to make developers and publishers obliged to allow the userbase to maintain the needed support."

games like Destiny 2 are extremely integrated with their service model, but you could still play most of the game offline if save data was stored locally instead of on an account tied to a server

The way to solve this issue might be more simple if it were just the physical console games by putting an expiration date on the front or back cover of the game case/box. But you know for sure that the publishers and marketing department do not want that to ever be seen by anyone. If someone reads the box and asks what does it mean that this games functionality may expire in the future? that might make someone just put it back on the shelf and ask for something else. With an online game store someone might easily miss the fine print, but probably not with the physical as being the easiest method to deliver the message.

Locally they even had the gall to attack the ex-party leader for not offering a personal loan of half a mil out of his own pocket to the entryist leftists which he had previously given to another higher-up party guy. (whom he had worked with personally for decades outside of politics)

Man, i remembered veritasium video which had info that there are planned and designed obsolescences. I don't remember which is which but one is somewhat okay and the other being illegal, the difference being that one is "we tested it and the product brakes after 3000 hours of use" while the other is "we guarantee it will break before 3000 hours because we made it that way specifically"
And with games it's that games can break because of some thirdparty software changing or hardware breaking at some point in time, but if they game is designed to stop working at some point it is the illegal one.
