Games are mostly becoming more digital
Even if you buy a game physically, they need patches or updates so then it's part digital anyways.
There's literally no way of doing this.

People are still playing Pong, there's no justifiable reason they can't still be playing The Crew in a dew decades.

There should be a legally required number of years you have to maintain a server for anything with multiplayer functionality. Something reasonable like 10 years. Nobody should expect servers forever but we can at least expect a minimum number of years or if they don't want to do that allow people to start private servers. Americucks won't do it but maybe Europe will.

Eventually everything will return back to nothing, no matter how great of a life you live your impact will be nothing at the grand scale of things, no human alive now, before or in the future will have left any trace as the last black hole dies. There is beautify in that, and it brings peace.

Piracy has never had a negative impact on something good that is being provided with a good service.
Either your product is shit, you aren't properly selling your product, or your financial situation was already so shit that nothing could have saved you.
Complaints about piracy are always echoed by major failing companies because that represents something that can ostensibly be fixed by just treating their customers like criminals and not actually fixing anything, but really it's just a way to continue a bad business.

But he's right. Games that exist entirely in an online setting and require a revolving door of users joining and interacting will die eventually. SKG thinks getting an empty server you can host privately "saves" the game from being "killed". It doesn't, the game dies when the players stop playing, the game literally is the players. SKG is just preservation autism branded as a pro consumer movement.

If course it does, it's what you chose. Sure you can petition the government to "fix" that's issue but at the end of the day you haven't learned your lesson, you're just going to do it again with the next thing. Not to mention none of these are retroactive so the game your fighting for will still be dead, you're going to be one step behind every single time and you'll never do the thing you should have done in the first place and taken responsibility for your own actions.

>Are purchased games products or services?
I always find it funny when articles and companies bring up this question as if there was even a debate, at least not in the EU where SKG is based in, cause the EU already ruled more than 10 years ago, in 2012 to be precise, that purchased games, even digital ones(which include the concept of licenses) can be resold cause they are products, and therefore have all the associated consumer rights.

Never, never ever trust journalism and companies when they question if something is or isnt something, cause 9 times out of 10 the issue has already been LEGALLY resolved many years ago and they're just trying to make it look like an ambiguous gray area where things aren't certain, when as a matter of facts they are clear as water.

>why is SKG petitioning the EU to better define service games, and to allow them to to die so long as the end date is defined?
that is not what SKG is asking.
SKG is exactly asking the EU to better define rules of what developers can or can't do and/or must do when they decide to drop support for a game which requires an online connection, either for authentication or to be played in multiplayer as its main component, EXACTLY cause the EU has already defined games as products.

In short, what SKG is saying is "hey EU, you already defined games as products, yet these companies are treating them as services, taking them away from us when they stop supporting them. we know it's their right to stop support, but since you already ruled they are products, you must add precises laws and regulation to make developers and publishers obliged to allow the userbase to maintain the needed support."

Servers can be emulated an provided that the developer has proper versioning software you can even deploy specific patches in games that is appropriate.
You fucking fags aren't convincing anyone. Killing video games is not a technical decision, it's a business one.

I refuse to believe there are people that cannot gather their friends to load up a server of an old game for old times sake. Just because it isn't a full server 100% of the time doesn't mean that you can't do it whenever you want.
I can't imagine there is somebody playing OG Quake every day, but I can imagine someone creating a LAN party with friends every so often. Why should it matter how many people are playing it, give US the players the choice over the matter.

Why should I respond to this? This supposes that fighting corporate abuses being a neverending battle means it's pointless to fight, so we should give up and let them have this. If that's not what you mean by that, then the answer is we clearly make them eat shit in perpetuity.

It'd be like saying "Oh you're going to die one day, so you might as well kill yourself now." Which I get if you're suffering a terminal illness, but that's a completely different situation.

>Then maybe you shouldn't hand them the world on a silver platter
I didn't, other people did. That doesn't mean I want to be a bystander in this. Making C-Suites cast themselves off the roof of office buildings in mimicry of stock prices is not only funny, it's a moral imperative.

Making wealth by abusing others is categorically evil, and evil demands to be fought. The fact that retards are their primary targets is irrelevant to me, I don't want evil people to exist in my world, and if I can't get rid of them, then I can at least do my part to make their existence difficult.

While international gamers can't sign the initiative like i did i still appreciate them for spreading the news of the initiative around the internet. I hope the EU makes regulations and laws that will lead to all of us in Europe and hopefully everyone internationally owning the videogames we paid for.

What's with this demoralisation tactic you skgfags use? It's like you don't want people to fight against corporations at all. I mean, literally no one said that you shouldn't try, you're just being told that you're doing it wrong because they're always one step ahead of you.
These are people who spend most of their time thinking about how to fuck people over and skirt around laws as much as possible and you think a new law is going to stop that? It's just business as usual, which is why you have to aim at the heart and do what you should have done in the first place, have some restraint and not buy shitty products since that's going to cause investors to leave because they're not seeing returns on their investment.

it's true that many things people think they own are not actually truly owned. even a house is not owned by you. the land belongs to the government, your purchase of a house is actually limited to a 99 year land lease which will return to the government if not inherited.
those in power have designed everything to keep you down, and themselves propped up. it's so normalised that no one thinks anything of it, we just accept our slavery to the system.

That's probably a good thing, otherwise you'd have a bunch of land no one can touch because it's still owned by a guy who died 200 years ago and didn't pass the property on through inheritance. That does make me wonder what happens if you outlast the lease. The absolute upper limit of the human lifespan seems to hang around 120.

the number of video games that are actually services is exceptionally small; frankly I can't think of any
multiplayer games can always have offline modes with bots or - preferably - come packaged with server software so that people can host games themselves
there are sometimes services - such as matchmaking - included with video games but the game itself is a product
games like Destiny 2 are extremely integrated with their service model, but you could still play most of the game offline if save data was stored locally instead of on an account tied to a server
multiplayer would either need a server package or some kind of LAN compatibility (something that may already exist for all I know)

Are you pretending the eula was common knowledge before this movement? Are you pretending that the very language used in that eula is designed to be obtuse in order to limit understanding for the lowest common denominator(i.e. you)? If anything this just spells out why you shouldn't buy games from Ubisoft if they can't assure you that you'll be able to play the games you bought at some point in the future. I fear the day where IO Interactive will completely delete nu Hitman from history because the inherent nature of how the games systems work. David Jaffe's response of 'just don't buy it' will not kill this cancerous trend, it's not a solution. Nobody knows that these games are being sold in a future broken state and that's the issue.

The way to solve this issue might be more simple if it were just the physical console games by putting an expiration date on the front or back cover of the game case/box. But you know for sure that the publishers and marketing department do not want that to ever be seen by anyone. If someone reads the box and asks what does it mean that this games functionality may expire in the future? that might make someone just put it back on the shelf and ask for something else. With an online game store someone might easily miss the fine print, but probably not with the physical as being the easiest method to deliver the message.

Went off and died in a corner once they were taken over by leftoids at all levels who drove out the founders and decided what they actually cared about were "LGBT issues" (co-incided here with getting a dyke party lead), more mass-immigration and that copyright wasn't really all that important after all.
Locally they even had the gall to attack the ex-party leader for not offering a personal loan of half a mil out of his own pocket to the entryist leftists which he had previously given to another higher-up party guy. (whom he had worked with personally for decades outside of politics)

Man, i remembered veritasium video which had info that there are planned and designed obsolescences. I don't remember which is which but one is somewhat okay and the other being illegal, the difference being that one is "we tested it and the product brakes after 3000 hours of use" while the other is "we guarantee it will break before 3000 hours because we made it that way specifically"

And with games it's that games can break because of some thirdparty software changing or hardware breaking at some point in time, but if they game is designed to stop working at some point it is the illegal one.
