I just really do not like the party system at all. now to be entirely fair, I was going "chronologically" so it's fucking celceta and maybe that's the real problem, but idk. I miss the fast solo action of the ark engine

The most fucked up thing about modern Ys is that if you describe old ark and bump games like "swordsman goes fast, has a fireball button and an elemental spin attack button" makes it for an incredibly generic description yet there is fuck all like it nowadays despite that, even among indie games you don't see anyone trying to copy old Ys like they copy other older stuff.
And even then, Party Ys still stands high among its competitors, modern Tales, Relink, Mana all have clearly higher budget but still feel so much worse to play, shit makes no sense to me.

I miss Ys being fast. You could deal tons of damage to a boss, but it could also kill you quickly, and the entire fight would last just a few minutes, even on Nightmare. You could deal a ton of damage to a boss once you got good. Then in the party games it's just skill spamming and even the most powerful skills will take off a microscopic chunk of health.

I have only played Oath and Origins and it feels like an entire genre of kino was stolen from me by the partyslop era. The closest i've come to feeling a fraction of what I felt playing Oath for the first time was trying Xanadu Next and Astlibra.

Did she help recover health or not? It's been a while. They really need to treat the sequels the same way as TDR.

I'm currently playing Ys 6 and it's pretty fun. I like how there's movement tech with the long jump thing even though it's implementation is pretty shit and the jumps are frustrating.
I liked 1 and 2 but hated how much of a labyrinth 2 felt like, had to play with a guide.

Are the modern Ys games good? They seem to have great reviews but they kind of look soulless. I'm really looking forward to playing the others games in the ark engine, it has SOUL

Opinions are pretty varied on this. Most old fans hate the direction it went, but Ys VIII did really well and introduced a bunch of new people to the series who like the modern system. I'd say give VIII a shot and if it doesn't grab you then you can ignore everything after Origin.
