also zero players. won't change any time soon because development has once again died.
as to OP's question:
>>716164461 (OP)>Why don't we get sandbox mmos anymore? The answer is:
Because sandboxes are fucking empty.
Empty things are boring things.
Boring things do not get played with.
Starbase is a sandbox MMO that, ON GAME LAUNCH:
- Had no map (because there were no points of interest beyond the starting zone)
- Had no fast travel (despite being a space game, where 99.99999% of the world is *EMPTY*)
- Had no permanent player-made bases (extremely large standard ships don't count as bases because they're too fragile)
- Had no social organization features which made forming groups impossible (unless you wanted to get groomed on discord by trannies)
You could build your ship how you liked using an in-game editor (and crash horribly if you tried the "easy build" feature) but that was it. It took actual fucking YEARS for just some those necessary features to be implemented (maps; fast travel; player-made bases) and yet the social-building tools still don't fucking exist, and there are still massive gaps in the ship building mechanic, which is the entire draw of the game as all ships are fully destructible... And PvP is actually massively destructive *to the sandbox identity of the game* and will be one-sided as the other person's ship is made for combat, and players can only really control one ship at a time (due to both the netcode structure and implemented game features)
And there's still no PvE for entertainment when players are not around, either.
Yes, the sandbox is completely fucking empty; it has no sand in it. That's why no one plays in it.
