Metaprogression defeats the whole purpose. Turns what could be a fun challenge into a grind. Actually improving your skills at the game feels pointless. These games are not RPGs enough for that to work. It literally just happens so shitters don't get mad when they lose. But, by the way, Spelunky did have level skips unlockable.
>>716193217 They're pretty balanced. Not a criticism. You don't want to enter the late game without gold/items. 2 gives you some chances at catching up if you use them but it's still balanced.
>>716193017 it's not that i hate metaprogression it just should be understood as a serious departure and not something that can be shone horned into any game as a feature.
>>716193017 >Metaprogression defeats the whole purpose. Turns what could be a fun challenge into a grind it depends on how the game implements it it sucks in dead cells because the game is actually made to be grinded while you upgrade your character but in the binding of isaac for example you can easily beat your first run and the game just opens up with a ton of extra stuff you unlock later

>>716193952 >>716194829 Haven't played on a year+ and can probably beat it first try rn. Yeah I'm a big guy
>>716192383 (OP) Yeah I never really considered spelunky a rogue like.
I really wish Vagante got even half the popularity of Spelunky. It feels a lot more controlled, methodical, Like what I imagine nethack would feel like if it was turned into a sidescrolling action game.
>>716200972 Did you buy a google stadia or so? I thought streaming video games was a DOA concept. Are there any "cloud gaming" services even still operating?

>>716192383 (OP) I never liked Spelunky because it always played kinda shit and the HD version removed the single best part of the original freeware version (Buzinkai's god tier music)
