There's no one single thing that makes a pokemon good. It's usually a combination of factors. Like a good typing, good moveset, and ability to fascilitate a gameplan for the team.

For instance in your picture there are some mons that are total glass cannons like Fluttermane, Bulky supporter mons like Landorus and Scizor, and full on defensive mons like Porygon 2. Each pokemon is unique and it's more about what they can do for the team then any one singular thing.

People have the impression that showdown is informal fan activity, therefore inappropriate to engage with. Something official straight from Nintendo will draw those people in and keep them in one place, which also makes the scene easier to manage and influence.

I like showdown but if both are going to be free and easy to build teams in I see no reason why I can't play this too for nicer animations and a prettier look. Plus when the new generation comes out it will be nice for the pokemon to actually look like pokemon instead of using a janky oversized sprite for half the generation.
