Personally, I like this particular take on Sword and Magic better than D&D.
It is more welcoming than D&D and Pathfinder.

Project was never serious. It all started from a YouTuber (Indigo) managing to score an interview with Julian, and then a naive young video game agent in the UK (Stefan) seeing the interview and pestering Indigo to try to get Julian to make another game. Indigo and Stefan then pitched Ted and Julian, but after 18 months of no real progress, Indigo and Stefan realized that Julian wasn't serious about the project and left. Of course, we now know why Julian was never serious (his cancer), but for some asinine reason Ted has been keeping the charade going for over 6 years now.

It was Ultima. TES basically combined the first person perspective of Ultima Underworld with the open world of the mainline Ultima games.
