Its peak comfy for a survival block game. Everything is expanded and well thought out, for better or worse. Actual seasons that affects the world and (You), knapping stones to get tools, cave-ins when mining, voxel-based building systems such as smithing and clay forming.
In Minecraft, you want a pickaxe, you punch a tree, get logs, break it down for wood and sticks, make a crafting table, and shape it in on crafting table. About 3 minutes in total.
In Vintage Story, you spend an hour or two depending on settings/luck, to find copper nuggets. You dig up clay to form a crucible mold. You use clay to form a pickaxe mold. You gather sticks and wood/peat to make a kiln to cook the pickaxe mold and the crucible to store your nuggets in. You make a pit of firewood to get charcoal. You use the charcoal to heat up the copper nuggets that are in the crucible. You make wooden tongs so you dont literally burn your hands to death by holding the crucible. You pour the molten copper into the pickaxe mold. After some time, you put the pickaxe head into the crafting grid with an singular stick to make a pickaxe. About 2 in total, not accounting the struggle of finding copper nuggets.
