I want real adventure. Not real life, real adventure. There has to be some game out there where you can explore the chasms of a guttural apocalyptic world, seeking refuge in some worn down infrastructure and making camp for the night. Traveling to a distant small trading post, barely keeping itself together through the harsh conditions of the world. Climbing down into a creepy metro tunnel system and running in fear for your life from things that go bump in the night. And after all of that, just a little bit of affirmation from companions that you're actually worried about might die. All to come out the other side a note better than you were. Is there anything like that out there?

It's close but it's not good enough. Still a good game.

have you tried CDDA? it hits a lot of those notes except for the companions, NPC companions in that game suck dick, it's almost always better to fight alone in that game unless you're using NPCs as gunners on the back of your motorcycle

I actually have a game like this planned after my current project
However it's modeled after "The Night Land", if that interests you

Outward is decent. Not post-apocalyptic mind you, but it did give me similar adventuring vibes like when playing Gothic games.
Combat is janky though.

decent is not enough. A game is either good or bad
