Yes, it's the only one you can beat in a day with a fun gradual progression scheme and tactical combat. Diablo 2 is a slot machine simulator and the later ones are total slop.

The soundtrack in the first two acts is amazing and it does have better variety of enemies and enemy AI, even though the gameplay usually fails to utilize it

Who says you can’t play 2 the way you play 1? No need for endless autism spirals if you just boot it up for a playthrough

Excessively tanky enemies say. Also, you have to use a guide or waste tons of hours figuring out the meta in Diablo 2 for most classes (except like sorc). Diablo 1 is just a matter of forging ahead; worst case scenario you get soft-locked by a random too-strong miniboss or level with too many projectile enemies and reset the world once to boost your xp and make the dungeon easier.

just play the first difficulty for a casual playthrough. >muh hell difficulty cant be beaten without tormenting myself grinding for 40 hours

if you level right and not even autistically just logically, you can chain enough damage modifiers together to go through them.
when I play diablo, I never loot or go to shops, I just pick what I want from the ground and leave what I dont want to use. no grinding necessary. dont even do side content when the story is hype.

I'd say it's the same thing with fallout 1 and 2, 1 is a more solid overall experience while 2 is still good and longer but isn't as consistently good as 1.

Diablo 2 is so radically different and had so much influence over the future of the genre that you can't really compare the original Diablo to any that came after. It's its own unique experience. Enemies don't respawn so you can't repeatedly farm for dopamine hits. Your character is relatively weak(outside of a few busted spells) and you aren't meant to feel like a one man army; you play the game slow and methodical and try to lure small groups of enemies away from large packs. Aside from exploiting glitches you technically have a limited amount of resources through the whole game which makes the overall experience feel more like you're just trying to survive. The game is very simple and the combat is arguably the "worst" of the series but it's still worth experiencing because of how different it is compared to everything that came after which are just iterations of D2.

yes it is, specially if you have hellfire for the extended classes
barb is what warrior should've been and bard can pull some stupid builds like no light assassin

The best one? No. That goes to D2 post synergies patch.
D2 w/synergies > D1 > D2 wo/synergies > the entire measurable length of the universe > D3/4/Immortal
