Now that dust has settled and the game goes on sale all the time is yooka laylee worth playing?

It's okay, but there are plenty of better 3D platformers out there, even in the indie scene.
I'd certainly recommend Hat in Time, Pseudoregalia, etc. before Yooka if someone asked for an indie platformer.

No, it fucking sucks. Being made by ex-Rare devs without any oversight in an echo-chamber of Rare fart-sniffers (at a time when uncritical Rare fart-sniffing was extremely high in general) meant that YK doubled down on all of the flaws that made Banjo-Tooie a mixed bag and which made DK64 borderline unplayable. It felt like YL being a miserable experience to play, without any nostalgia buoying it unlike BT and DK64, is what prompted the reassessment of BT and DK64 in the first place.
Also Laylee isn't anywhere near as fuckable as Kazooie so why would I bother?

Impossible Lair is great though, play that ASAP.

It's Banjo-Tooie but not as good, I haven't played the revision re-release so I dunno if its better or not.

Eh, if it ends up being a far better, more accurate version of their original 2017 vision for YL like they're saying, I have no problem with it. A sequel in the next couple of years would be great though.

i can't believe how hyped /v/ was for this years ago. it was fucking insane. i don't even think most people here now like banjo kazooie.

It sucks. It's also pretty faithful to the kind of game Banjo-Tooie was. Conclude from those 2 facts what you will.

I liked it. It's no Banjo-Kazooie but it's the closest a game has ever come to feeling like a follow-up while not sucking balls.

I think AHiT devs shilling their mediocre game in every YL thread probably has a lot to do with it. YL was pretty rough at first, and I guess there was the JonTron shit too, which probably didn't help. I hope Replaylee manages to redeem it a bit in the eyes of everyone who thought it sucked, but I thought it was enjoyable enough after a couple of patches despite the glaring issues, and people even hated on things that I thought it did well (like hiding collectables in really obnoxious places, which seemed on brand for a collectathon especially from a developer marketing itself as ex-Rareware).

Nothing major, but the minigames were basically unplayably jank, they improved the controls and added more options, and I think the final boss got revised a bit (think at least one of the phases now drops health).
