People say that XIII took the series in a direction for the worse when the excessive streamlining was already around since IX where 3 out of 4 discs were mostly railroaded setpieces and the final dungeon being a straight line.

Versus took way too long.

Type-0 was pretty damn cool for a PSP game but take that limitation away and you're left with a mediocre game, which they did with the HD port and everyone shat on it.

Versus was kill. But whatever, the rot set in years earlier when Spirits Within tanked and fucked Squaresoft into the merger, and it has never been the same company since.

Is it that bad that they made it more linear? Like the other ones had giant open empty as fuck maps where the only added gameplay it gave you was you could go the wrong way and get raped by overleveled mobs.
Walking around an empty map isnt fun or anything and the, maybe 5, side quests dont warrant the bullshit that it brings.

This might be because of the current openworld trend thats lasting nearly 15 years now, but I much preffer a streamlined game as XIII over any other generic "overworld fucking about" jrpg

XIII suffered a lot from really bad presentation. Dumb names like Lightning, Hope and Snow. Character designs that were meh at best. The sleek, futuristic interface that always looks so out of place in a FANTASY game. I swear, with a few tweaks, people would have been more high on XIII. Or maybe not. People's expectations at the time might have been too high after the run from IV to XII (even accounting for the fact that many skipped XI and XII was kinda iffy itself (though it still feels like the last real FF game, if you ignore XIV)).

It's not. X was pretty much the same corridor simulator but fans, although they grumbled a bit about the lack of an airship and all that, still gave it a pass because they liked the character and the story and the rest of the gameplay.

I will never understand why Final Fantasy games later became so obsessed with the open world meme. It ended up killing the franchise. Nobody wants to spend forever traversing an empty world.

The entire japanese videogame industry had to change in the 7th gen, they thought they still could make engines for each game and games like FF13 and DMC4 suffered from dev hell as they also realized that the consoles weren't as powerful as initially imagined

Even Suikoden Tierkreis for the Nintendo DS is a way better game than FFXIII. That isn't an acomplishment.

everything

"fabula nova krisalys" was like, 3 games that has same gods, etro, etro's gate, and other religious stuff

ff13 was released, nothing of this shown, only written in some documents. type-0 was released, plot was about gods, but player never knew it because it was all beyond the camera. like, "you know this one random guy that looks lke usual enemy soldier? - he was great evil god all the way but we never told anyone"

and versus 13 was never released, and ff15 was not about fabula nova, it was just ff15, just bad game

what was wrong - toriyama and tabata making bad games for like 10 years, 2010-2020 years of bad ff games.

You don't have to be.
XIII-2 is alright. Caius's theme is phenomenal, the Chocobo theme is so dumb it's good, there are towns and npcs unlike in XIII. It's not a bad game.
However I still ended up enjoying XIII more even with the retarded hallways because the combat was so good if you didn't use auto. The only issue I have with XIII-2 is that they substantially reduced the difficulty making it easy mode thorought the entirety of the game until you hit the kino DLC fights which were so hard that you had to spend a lot of time grinding to beat them. So that wasn't well integrated at all. I also liked LR returns more than XIII-2 but it's not a bad game at all.

I would probably have liked LR if I did play it right after 13-2. I can see it's in line with what I enjoyed in this series (story, setting, characters), I was just too burned out of gaming to go through with it.
