you're either a spellblade or a faggot throwing tiny magic missiles at your enemy, huge spells are either worthless or take insane amounts of FP for relatively little effect, except maybe a couple outliers

Most enemies donโ€™t input read.

Like I canโ€™t think of a single regular mob who dodges projectiles, even most bosses donโ€™t outside of:

> black knife assassins
> Godskin apostles
> Morgot (phase 2 only)
> Malenia
> Radagon, although he parries it, he doesnโ€™t dodge
> every NPC fight

Iโ€™m pretty sure thatโ€™s it. Itโ€™s really not common phenomenon at all, itโ€™s just infuriating when it does become a problem. But most of time itโ€™s not worth using sub-par spells to avoid a problem you most likely arnt encountering.

DLC Radahn only got nerfed once. Unless you count pre-release unfinished version.

But yeah Crystal Release is secretly stupid overpowered, but no one knows about it because they are scared to get hit and die, like stupid youtubers doing INT only runs (so 10 Vigor) then ranking spells and putting Crystal release in F tier. But if you have enough hp/armour to not die in 2 seconds, the trade is always worth it. Just heal, and cast again, the boss will run out of hp before you run out of heals.

Itโ€™s also hilarious in PvP because no one knows that it has hyper armour, so their swing doesnโ€™t bother me, and does such absurd damage that by attacking me they sealed their fate and instantly die.

Strike isn't necessary to crack crystalians, it's based on stagger. Strike will allow you to deal normal damage to them before they're cracked though and it's very easy to test on either them or the stone miners that rock sling deals extremely low damage, meaning it's not strike.

Crystallions break to any 70 poise damage. 70 throwing knives will break one. Strike damage just does full damage even vs unbroken Crystalions. Rock Sling doesnโ€™t do strike, so its damage sucks against Crystalions, but each rock does 9.5 poise damage, so it takes 8 rocks (or three casts) to break one, which is much better than most spells.

Rot breath will take half a bosses life bar before proccing the rot to finish the job

With a few points in dex you can also use the fun but underpowered arc weapons like regalia, a few more and you get RoB and an insane nuke spell. Actual meta build

DeS and DaS1 didn't really have spells that big but magic was incredibly powerful. In DaS1 you can beat Gwyn in 2 or 3 casts of the powerful spells like Crystal Soul Spear. Since then however From has started focusing much more on making their games "woooow so hard!! YOU DIED XDD" and that has ultimately resulted in the current design school for magic, where big spells are slow as fuck and completely milquetoast or else they may threaten their precious difficulty if they actually let you do something cool and effective, so they're just stuck in this barely usable at best sort of limbo, where the spell is fucking shit but maybe there's some specific situation or a particular boss somewhere that it's actually very good against, as a coincidence that simply exists because From can't test every single spell in every single scenario to make sure they're universally useless.

Basically, it's design philosophy to make those spells suck ass.

>>716215247
You can beat him the "normal" way aka just learn to dodge everything and fire quick little spells at him in the openings until you win. I experimented around a bunch and eventually discovered that the golem dude ash summon that you also get in the DLC is very, very good at holding aggro and was nearly able to DPS him down before golem guy died. I just finished him off normally after that, dodging as best I could. It took me like 2-3h of attempts so at that point I did learn his patterns to some degree, good enough to finish the job.

>>716215559
They're good but there are a bunch of spells which get input read but hit anyway as well, it's not really such a terribly unique property to make them that much better than the rest.

>>716215725
After playing the game as a mage I ended up finding that FP efficiency isn't particularly important on bosses as long as you don't use something extremely inefficient, DMG per cast opportunity felt way more important to me.

>You need to upgrade it
This seems to be a real sticking point for you. Putting aside the fact that, again, your staff is literally the most important weapon for a sorcerer and thus it's not a "waste" to upgrade it, do you realize that smithing stones are not finite or rare? You can literally just buy more even assuming you somehow don't find more from drops or world loot.

Somber is even easier despite the patch to volcano manor.

This is maybe true for ds1 but is absolutely not true for elden ring lol
You clobber them with big weapons and create your own openings by staggering and poise breaking enemies, very few enemies and only some bosses can't be beaten this way. Waiting your turn to press r1 is a very outdated way to play and you can always tell the people stuck in their ways from DS that criticize the game because it isn't a very good strategy anymore when really they just refuse to try anything else

This sounds very much like a skill issue
I beat the dlc twice, once with quality fkgs and the second time with death knights longhaft axe on a faith/str build, if you couldn't manage without resorting to shield poking you're just bad
So many bosses are best handled by beating the shit out of them, rellana especially got murdered by spear talisman giant hunts.

the ratio is not that important in the grand scheme of things,
it's greatest advantage for me is the high dps of the spell and that you can use it fast out of a roll
it being cheap on top of that makes it more universally useful, but it would still be worth using against many enemies at a damage per fp cost equivalent to pebble

another thread, another 400 posts complaining about how there's only one allowed playstyle because people STILL don't understand that all you have to do, literally, ALL you have to do, is evade/defend FIRST, and then you can safely land whatever attack you want

i really dont get it. most people who pick up these games these days end up rolling colossal, it's absolutely insane to me that people can just bruteforce through an entire playthrough with a colossal weapon without once realizing, hey, i dont need to just dodgeslop and trade hits, i can actually learn to anticipate time my slow charge attack and i actually end up doing more damage this way and die less often!! no, never happens. they just repeatedly sprint at the wall until the cutcscene plays, and they somehow come away from the experience thinking that their own personal horrible gameplay is the objective only and best way to play.

Jumping is the one of the only reliable methods in this game, both base and DLC. Less so in DLC however

You can get a magic ash from Rogier in stormveil and just throw that on pretty much anything to be your backup mage weapon until you get to the actual int weapons in the mid-lategame

It does not. Even the worst 100 physical block shield can tank bosses thanks to barricade shield and greatshield talisman.
>parrying also is risky due to how spammy and stupid animations are...
Miss a parry or a roll and you take damage either way. (even then a partial parry has damage reduction)
Time a good parry and you get a big chunk of damage in or interrupt the boss.
Successfully roll and you get to keep rolling until you get your pity R1 for measly damage.

Base game is far, far easier than DLC.

>>716227250
7-8 attempts is easy? I beat Malenia in like 3 attempts. The nuRadahn fight (pre-nerf, haven't replayed it since) took me like 2-3h worth of attempts and that was far, far harder than anything else in the game. Frankly I don't know how you can stand dying for 2 days on 1 boss fight, especially one as badly made as OG nuRadahn where 50% of the trouble was all the beam spam that actually stops you from seeing what's going on. I was already pissed after my 2-3h of doing that fight before I beat him.

Listen, Ive had this argument for years even before the DLC. I know what works in Elden Ring and what doesnt. Yes, Im aware you can eventually learn things to the point where that stuff becomes easier. But most players wont ever rely on them cause the base game, DLC moreso, has already taught us that one mistake leads to getting one shot or almost one shot.

I have no patience for a game like that and I won't try to sugarcoat how ass it is. So stop trying to think ER is as complicated as something like Sekiro. The best strats in ER is to just move around, roll, jump, and summon for help.

Most pro streamers who used shield already adviced that you have to use roll and that you cant shield forever. The game doesn't like shield users unless optimize in endgame for it.

It certainly doesn't work well against Malenia, PCR, Gaius, Rellana, or horse nights. But, that's pretty much it. Even something as quick on its feet as the ghostflame dragon gets raped and gaped by it.

Two from mines, one from mountains, final one from Godskin duo. I know you can eventually just buy as many as you need outside of the final tier, but during your playthrough that's obviously not going to be terribly practical.

It does so much damage because it hits continuously while it moves through a boss's huge body. Most other spells hit once or a limited number of times if they're multi-projectile but Shard Spiral just keeps tearing through. So if it's fuckhuge and ideally doesn't move around a lot, Shard Spiral just keeps drilling as it moves. It's still alright against smaller targets too, not a bad spell at all but it's nothing compared to what it does to the big ones.
