>>716214871DeS and DaS1 didn't really have spells that big but magic was incredibly powerful. In DaS1 you can beat Gwyn in 2 or 3 casts of the powerful spells like Crystal Soul Spear. Since then however From has started focusing much more on making their games "woooow so hard!! YOU DIED XDD" and that has ultimately resulted in the current design school for magic, where big spells are slow as fuck and completely milquetoast or else they may threaten their precious difficulty if they actually let you do something cool and effective, so they're just stuck in this barely usable at best sort of limbo, where the spell is fucking shit but maybe there's some specific situation or a particular boss somewhere that it's actually very good against, as a coincidence that simply exists because From can't test every single spell in every single scenario to make sure they're universally useless.
Basically, it's design philosophy to make those spells suck ass.
>>716215247You can beat him the "normal" way aka just learn to dodge everything and fire quick little spells at him in the openings until you win. I experimented around a bunch and eventually discovered that the golem dude ash summon that you also get in the DLC is very, very good at holding aggro and was nearly able to DPS him down before golem guy died. I just finished him off normally after that, dodging as best I could. It took me like 2-3h of attempts so at that point I did learn his patterns to some degree, good enough to finish the job.
>>716215559They're good but there are a bunch of spells which get input read but hit anyway as well, it's not really such a terribly unique property to make them that much better than the rest.
>>716215725After playing the game as a mage I ended up finding that FP efficiency isn't particularly important on bosses as long as you don't use something extremely inefficient, DMG per cast opportunity felt way more important to me.
