there's also the fact that fighting game fans are a dwindling group of people to harvest money from. eventually people are going to either get tired of paying 80 dollaridoos + dlc + battle pass + cosmetics, or they'll just find their favorite game to stick to as they enter their twilight years. and mk1 played it super safe after mk11 already played it safe. try making something fresh, like maybe not even a traditional fighting game
