I mean, it certainly had potential to be on par with both those consoles, but the 3D pipeline was abysmal to work with and it would have been better suited with a library of 2D and occasionally 2.5D games. If anything, the Saturn was a victim of a rapidly shifting industry that gave priority to polygonal graphics instead of just making things that looked good.
burning rangers proved this correct. but it came way too late.
Symphony of the night ran like shit on the Saturn. It couldn't even handle 2D games.
