I'll do them later. It's fun getting better at remembering words or spitballing new words from previous kanji readings/meanings and getting them right, but it feels like the grammar never actually sticks. Forming sentences seems alien at my level and the only time I come across it is when I painstakingly try to grind a VN with textractor & GPT as the only grammar deck I have isn't working for me.

there are. relying on J-E dictionaries can get you relatively far. for grammar you pick your favorite recourse and read up on it (dictionaries of japanese grammar, a handbook of japanese grammar patterns for teachers and learners, donnna toki dou tsukau nihongo hyougen bukei jiten, nihongokyoshi-net)
if you need help with similar words, there are synonyms dictionaries but they're in nip I think

the best way to form sentences is to make them. find examples in the wild. e.g. for ไปฃใ‚ใ‚Šใซ
ใ“ใฎใ‚ซใƒกใƒฉใ€ๅ†™็œŸใŒใ‚ˆใๆ’ฎใ‚Œใ‚‹ไปฃใ‚ใ‚Šใซใƒใƒƒใƒ†ใƒชใƒผๅฎน้‡ใŒ้žๅธธใซๅฐใ•ใ„
this camera takes some great pics, but(ไปฃใ‚ใ‚Šใซ on the flipside) its battery life is dogshit
ps: do not confuse with Aไธ€ๆ–นใงB

I went a little hard on Anki. I've temporarily disabled my current sub deck and am just reviewing what I've already seen. Now I have more time for immersion and other things I've been neglecting for time.

I got N5 with barely 20h of total studying and most of that was the night before the exam while drunk. A retarded monkey with a sock sniffing addiction could easily outscore me but I assure you that N5 is nowhere near playing territory. Maybe South of N2 and that's being generous and depends heavily on the game.

Read manga instead if you're just starting out on immersing, it's a zillion times easier for the most part. Most VNs are aimed at adults while a sizable portion of manga (the majority, probably?) is aimed at kids. Videogames with furigana are also a decent option since if it has furigana it's 99% made with retarded kids in mind as well.

I didn't mean N5 as in passing the test, I meant N5 as in
>Linguistic competence required for the JLPT
>One is able to read and understand typical expressions and sentences written in hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji.
I think if you're just studying for the exam you'll have the knowledge to pass the exam but because exams aren't all-encompassing you'll be too specialized. Even at higher levels sometimes. Whereas if you're just learning the language and then evaluating where you'd place, N5 would be enough because you'd have tons of extra miscellaneous crap on top. So it would be enough. Atleast that's what I think, not sure if that's actually sensible.

Not him, but I remember feeling the exact same way. The realization that you now have thousands of symbols to memorize that are much more complex than the ones you just memorized hits you like a ton of bricks. No matter what, this shit takes time. A shitload of time. I'm now years into learning but I quit multiple times along the way. I think the key to not quitting is immersing ASAP, because as soon as I started doing that it stopped feeling like an endless grind and started being fun. Immersion requires a different kind of brain power than memorizing vocab/kanji though. It's more fun but more difficult early on, I think. Memorizing vocab is comparatively mindless tedium.

I'm astounded that anyone would take a crack at the language without knowing that

it gets easier as you go, believe me. I see ่”ฝ in ้š ่”ฝ(conspiracy), I think of ๅผŠ็คพ(our ruinous company), ่ฒจๅนฃ(currency), ไธ€็žฅ(one cursory look). all because the "big monolithic splotches" share the same big part

Look for games with furigana, why do you need conversation logs? That's almost exclusively a VN feature, not sure why you would expect that. This random youtuber compiled a handy list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14TKRFvnDmBsgfxCJzkaNKTKmx4qDcsv7QSmfyzIKxQ4
There's probably way more than just this but it's a start.
