are you using tank controls? I think you'll do much better on the platforming if you adapt to them.
If the combat is filtering you just use cheats, they're the weak parts of these games anyway

Just save liberally, it was already a feature in (the PC versions of) the originals so you can't even be accused of not playing the games as intended.
