It's impossible to get into any old multiplayer game at this point. You are basically stuck in whatever game/genre you grew up with as a kid.
>Yeah bro. Just change genre bro. Just try beating people with 2 decade experience on a genre you have little experience bro.
Statements made by utterly deranged.
I am only good at clicking heads super fast at FPS and nothing more.

This is exactly why fighting games are dead. They aren't designed to be welcoming to newfags / people who haven't been playing them non-stop since birth. Anytime I see someone bitch about a fighting game being dead, I just think "and who's fault is that?"

it's nice when you find another newbie and keep playing with them. Maybe even become friends. Or just try a new thing and practice it in order to become good. It's nice to better yourself in something. But of course, animeposters wouldn't know a thing about anything i just said. Nice bait thread, though, wish you luck and many replies.

Bro you need minimum 1 year of grinding to even become close to gitting gud these days.
Can you imagine starting to play TF2 in 2025 for example? No FPS experience before hand. That's insane.

Learning the fundamentals of fightan doesn't take a lifetime.
I was a complete novice when I started but having a good tutorial and stubborn persistence when getting my face caved in, now I've got top 8 placements in tournaments against people who started playing way before I did.
Most of the difficulty of fightan is the amount of knowledge checks when you enter an established game, you simply will not recognize setups and know how to counter them. The fundamentals will always carry over between games so you'll be able to transfer the skills to new games and scenes if you dont want to play a game old enough to use this site.

It does when every fucking fighting game refuses to actually display inputs that correspond to the input device you're using. I'm looking at my PS4 controller and I'm not sure where the A, B, or C buttons are but that's what every fighting game shows me.

fighting games and RTS are the two i think are the most emblematic of this.
i have friends that tried to get into fighting games betwen sf5 and 6 and watching them play online, even after hundreds of hours and looking shit up, they were just mediocre or bad.
same with sc2. i have friends who have tried off and on to get into it, but it goes nowhere because the remaining playerbase is around two to almost three decades ahead.

Retard, the player base of any game isn't made up of people who have all been playing it since its release. You just sick ass at video games and are looking for something to blame other than yourself.

Anon. You should bind your buttons however you feel comfortable, and maybe don't play on a controller that isn't designed to accomodate a genre born in the arcade
ABC is the same as Light-Medium-Heavy, the use of them depends on the game but the fundamental scaling of strength between them (as well as cancels) is the same.

See and get that, but regardless of what I bind them to, the game will still show me A, B, and C, and I struggle to recall what each of these letters corresponds to on my controller, which then does an action in the game. It would be so much more fucking simple if it just showed me the actual button prompts from my controller. I'm not asking for a lot, basically every other genre in existence does this.
> and maybe don't play on a controller that isn't designed to accomodate a genre born in the arcade
Yeah let me just put down a shitlicious amount of money to buy a remotely decent Fightstick because the boomers who continue to make games in this genre can't adapt to the modern age of game design.

Anon, you should simply know which of your buttons give you your light, your medium, your heavy. If youre forgetting what your buttons do, you're severely hamstrung because you're too many levels separated from actually playing a match: imagine trying to drive a car in dense traffic while having to constantly take stock if what every pedal, gear shift, and every button on your dashboard does. Youre overloading yourself until you build that familiarity: focus on the important connections before you try to think about doing anything more complex like combos, tactics, or even using your specials or supers.
Some games do use console specific glyphs, but the point of showing you the functional glyphs is so that its understandable regardless of what console or controller you use.
If the game youre playing only uses 3 buttons, map them in alphabetical order from left to right and ignore the top face button. Most default binds already are like this, with the heavy being on the right trigger/bumper for 6 button games.
Also a 6 button controller isn't any more expensive than a current gen controller. You dont need to commit to a stick unless youre sure that you're going to play arcade games
I'm not trying to come off as snide, this is genuine advice.

I appreciate your genuine advice, but this just comes back around to the original point that yes, fighting games take fucking forever to learn and aren't friendly to newfags like myself. There's a reason FPS games are so insanely popular, and it's because of their ease of access.
>Here's your gun, there's some enemies, fucking shoot them
Meanwhile fighting games
>What? You don't have a degree in rocket science? Pfft, enjoy getting perfect'd by the AI then, good luck not getting absolutely shit on by literally everyone if you try to play online.

It might be preferable to play a beat em up as they share a lot of DNA with fightan. Even back in the day they were called the same genre before street fighter really established all of the things that we take for granted today that separated it from what we now call beat em ups
They have a similar through line of understanding as the FPS, arguably
>point at bad man and click. Don't let them click on you
>press your attack button a bunch and dont be attacked.
Fightan has way more than just 1 attack button, and you're against an opponent of equal strength instead of a mob of fodder enemies, so being mindful of your defense depends on player vs player interactions instead of reacting to AI behaviors.
Fightan as a genre still has a ways to go, notably in the onboarding side of things. But the genre only shines in pvp, so a pve tutorial isn't going to be as fleshed out like it should, and most novices give up because they get frustrated by losing to players with better fundamentals anyway.
As long as you arent mashing like a gorilla when you panic, you'll know you've graduated past novice level skill.

There are new people picking up a game, learning it, and excelling every day. A constant influx. People playing games at the highest level usually aren't in their 40's.

Fighting games are dead because its not fun to 1v1 some anonymous stranger on the internet. They were designed so that two men would stand side by side as they duked it out but the nerds that play these games in 2025 don't go outside

Yes you will get assraped that's how it always was you retard how do you think people got into arena shooters rts or mobas? They got assraped for the first year by more experienced players. If you can't get through the assraping you're weak.

It used to be easier to change genres because people used to fucking suck at video games. Ever looked at gaming resources from 20 years ago? Like a walkthrough or a guide or anything? Authors will tell you characters you know are harder to play for better returns are just plain bad, or that an enemy that can be easily stunlocked or walked around in a circle is difficult.
