it works for online games and older single player games, but you are doing something wrong in your life if that's all you can afford

It's more than enough. See: 9060XT and 5060.

It's much worse than the GTX1080, which is a 2016 GPU that is kinda trash nowadays and you may find for 100-150 bucks

had a XFX RX 560 for a few years, it'll do the job for 720p and most 1080p games, but it's definitely gonna struggle with modern shit

not a bad little card for sure, though

I use a 8GB one in my living room PC with Bazzite on, but lately it's been constantly hitting 85-90 C° whenever i play something even remotely "demanding", even light games it handled just fine until a few weeks ago, and i have no idea why its doing that cause it started doing that one day out f the blue, one day i launch Forza 5 and it runs fine at 90fps mid settings barely going above 70° C, the next day i launch the same exact game and i get barely 60fps and almost 90° C, if i play at low settings i still hit 80-85° C, and only lowering the resolution helps a bit, but still getting 75°+ C at 720p low setttings isnt normal.

I thought it could be the thermal paste, but would it really go from barely warm 70 C° one day to nearly 90 C° the next day if that was the issue?

Usually if it can run on a series s it'll run on an RX580, the GPUs are very similar power-wise.

These things are old enough that it could've developed a cooler mounting issue, there could be compacted dust blocking heat transfer in the heatsink (unlikely if the issues arose suddenly), one of the cooler fans could be stuck/slow, the thermal paste could've failed etc.

Technically 90c is safe for an RX580, but the lower FPS sounds like the card is throttling to avoid overheating. If it ran at the same clocks as it used to in its current state, it'd scorch itself.

It could be worth taking it apart, inspecting the insides (heatsink, pipes, transfer surfaces) and reapplying the paste. If you do so, keep in mind that pasting a GPU isn't quite like pasting CPU. GPU dies are bare without heat spreaders, so the paste has to cover the entire die (the pea method could lead to a burnt GPU here). The cooler has to apply even pressure so the die doesn't crack, so take care screwing the cooler back on. Also make sure none of the VRM and RAM thermal pads go missing.

Oh, and yes, old thermal paste can fail very suddenly if the heat transfer surfaces shift. Aging thermal paste tends to harden, and while hardened paste still works just fine for transferring heat, if the surfaces move and/or the hardened paste cracks, you may develop hot spots very quickly.

don't buy "new" cards like this from no-name chinese brands. they take old mining cards, pull the GPUs off of the boards and solder them onto new boards. you're not getting a new GPU.
