I don't agree that Street Fighter fans say the game is niche. If anything SF fans tend to be a bit egotistical about how popular the game once was.

I think people stopped claiming souls was that when Elden Ring came out. Like I remember seeing that statement a bunch before ER but if you have a game that sells like 30,000,000 units, you can’t say that anymore.

Touhou before Bad Apple music video and fumo twitter troon newfags was below popularity but still maintain niche title since shmups filters retards. Souls became too popular for its own good since 3 with the rise of streamer culture and ER is basically 9/11 to the oldfags doing more damage than good. Street Fighter was always moderately popular and deserved its mainstream appeal for pioneering fighting games since the boomer arcade era.
