Incremental size and power consumption growth is not sustainable. We need to get smaller.

Smaller has a physical limit. And cost for smaller is exponential.

we are at a point where we literally cannot make it any smaller. we're at the low nanometers now, any smaller and electrons won't even be able to flow properly to make the logic gates work. if you want smaller, you have to wait for quantum computing. microsoft is almost there.

in the meantime, ask devs to stop making 400gb games full of uncompressed assets that run like shit with even top of the line hardware. style over pure graphical fidelity: photorealism is bog standard and most people are gaming at 1080p anyway. 1440p on the outside, 4k is rare but for some reason that's what devs cater to.

As a mini-itx enjoyer this shit is incredibly annoying.
I have to limit myself to 3-slot 30cm cards, which are still fucking huge and less than half of what's available.
Standard appears to be 3.5slot 32cm, even on low/mid end cards, which is idiotic.

The boards themselves are actually smaller this gen than previous.
The problem is overwrought, needlessly large coolers that AIBs use as an excuse to upsell because the shitty deal they get from Nvidia means they otherwise have zero margin.
And those same coolers end up on AMD cards too cos they already made them.

I hate 4k so much, it's such a fucking meme at this point in time, the only way to achieve it with playable framerates in any somewhat high-fidelity game is to use upscaling and frame generation

considering it's 2025 and games still run like shit at 4k, it beggars belief that this shit was being pushed for the PS4 Pro back in 2016.

It's incredibly frustrating that because consoles and TV's are such connected industries, that as soon as 4k panels became cheap enough to sell ot the masses, they suddenly mandated that game consoles must play at 4k too, and they completely skipped over 1440p which actually runs well AND looks nice in 2025, and is the next logical step that should be targetted as the "new average", but instead we jump from 1080p to 4k despite it making zero fucking sense to do such a leap

Look at Last of Us that came out 2013 running on ps3 hardware.
Look at the Division (2016), Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018), Ghost of Tsushima (2020) and Control from same year. Do you really need better graphics and more power hungry hardware to support that? No. And you won't get it. You'll get worse graphics with UE5 and upscaling fake frames.

making everything continuously smaller and more "slim" was never a good thing. By making electronic devices smaller all we did was make them more fragile and susceptible to damage. and often times more boring looking and generic.

People (reddit types truthfully) coom their pants over how slim and "streamlined" the newest version of PRODUCT is. But truthfully keeping some bulk allows you to make something more durable and gives you extra room to design the device visually in a way that makes it unique or interesting to look at. This applies to all electronics. (things you have to look at every single day)

For the last decade, arguably longer, all electronic devices have looked like identical devices shipped out of the same shitty WALL-E factory. Everything as a result is more fragile and everything looks dystopian and identical. Anyone who disagrees with me is retarded. (yeah thats right i said it) Keep buying your overpriced rectangles.

There is something elegant about having a small PC. Your durability argument doesnt matter since who tf throuws around his PC lmao. In fact the bigger GPUs and the bigger coolers exert more force on the mobo so they probably have worse durability. The only good thing about a big PC is the ability to fit high end GPUs and many ssds/hdds and expansion cards. Otherwise there is no need for bulky shit.
big != quality

and yes as you said a bigger computer allows for more room to customize and change the internals. there is no need for something to be super small to the point it conflicts or impedes anything else. its not a formula 1 car. this is just coom brained consomer mindset. its also easier to design a product or device when its larger without cutting corners. lots of streamlined or slim devices end up having more problems down the line for this reason.

If you're having problems down the line then you just failed your planning. Small designs demonstrate efficiency and identity. I have an E-ATX tower and I regret the waste of space. It fits everything but I dont need everything. Having your PC take up less space means you have more space of other stuff and I mean this in the physical as well as the mental sense.

For example look at this case. It soothes the mind to look at. Small, efficient and beautiful. Only taking as much space as it needs, not more

>If you're having problems down the line then you just failed your planning

the slimmer and smaller your electronic device is, PC or otherwise, custom built or OEM/stock, the more likely it is to have problems the slimmer and smaller it is. im speaking generally as an overwhelming rule. A computer being 20% larger or smaller has no effect on your living space even if you live in a shoebox apartment. These are devices that you use on a near daily basis. You do not need to make them smaller. If you aesthetically prefer the slimmer device thats fine but objectively it only invites problems and it adds nothing.

This is a topic that is mainly speaking about mass produced products because an enthusiast making something for themself is willing to invest the time and money into doing it properly which many companies are not, and if they do, you are going to pay exponentially more than you should for NO benefit and often times problems down the line from heat build up degrading things on the laptop/pc tower. laptops and phones especially are exponentially more fragile today unless you put a phone case (phone condom) over it.

personally i think that computer is ugly and looks like something someone working at google or apple would have. i do not like the ikea look it has. but that is the thing about aesthetics everyone has their own opinion. i respect you for making something yourself that you like. it isnt something i would want in my room.

My loud ass 30 years old altec lansing speakers drown the fan noise out thoughbeit.
Also I'm too used to GPU blower fan + HDD + optical drive making shrieking noise at the same time.

No, and they sell tens of millions of units per year. An IGP is an IGP. Size and performance compared to total die area is not some magic line in the sane.

that graphic is meaningless, lil zoomtard. system configuration for iGPUs is highly dependent on BIOS/sysconfig settings. I've personally had performance on par with my old RX 5700 from an AMD iGPU on Linux (similar to Steam Deck), which was more on par with the NV 2060. the major consoles that can handle current gen AAAA slop all use SoCs/APUs.

Bigger coolers are objectively better, GPU clock speeds are going up and you're leaving performance on the table with a piddly cooler like apple with their gay form over function approach

Its about on par with a 1660. Hyperbole and exaggeration are the tools of a faggot.

is that why you are crying like a faggot while projecting right now. also, the graphic in >>716305041 shows almost a quarter of the performance from a worse GPU than a 1660. how is it both worse and equivalent to inferior tech at the same time? your salty cognitive dissonance is on full display.

Question: Why isn't water cooling the standard for GPUs? It's now fairly common for CPUs, maybe then we wouldn't need fuckhuge heatsinks, or at least the bulky part could be installed somewhere else.

People telling you not to get Nvidia are saying that because they hope that AMD being stronger will lead to cheaper Nvidia cards.
There is a reason why Nvidia is taking over more and more market share, and that reason is that they have better cards. Intel is a messing around a bit too much right now, though.
