I just finished the game so I went looking through the reviews and a frankly insane comment I read is that it wasn't as impressive as Mario Odyssey. Exactly what about Mario Odyssey was more impressive than this?

Another review complained about the bosses being much easier than the bosses in Mario which, again, is frankly insane. That reviewer obviously didn't finish the game, but even then does he just not remember what Mario bosses are like?

Maybe the variety of movesets given by the captures. But I think DK is more impressive in other areas such as the terrain destruction obviously and how exploration feels even more free-flow than Odyssey's because of that.

I don't think Odyssey is that good, but at least it felt like a new experience. Bananza just feels like Breath of the Wild and Odyssey... again. It's like sure, you can destroy everything. But there's no depth to it as a game mechanic. All perfectly passable games, but completely unexceptional by going Jack of All Trades
