How the fuck do people make games all by themselves? You have to learn coding (very time consuming since most of it revolves around frequent troubleshooting), you have to learn writing (something that is very easy to fumble and fall into countless traps of without a solid grasp on fundamentals), you have to learn how to make music (you have to learn music theory and then spend a lot of years gaining experience with making music just to make something that sounds even remotely decent), you have to learn how to do art (drawing in itself is a lifelong skill that you will always be improving at), and then you have to learn how to sell your game which requires learning marketing and socializing skills. You're telling me that in order to make a single game all by yourself, you need to spend decades learning all these other skills to a competent level beforehand? So basically if you're already in your late 20's and wanting to get into gamemaking and have none of these aforementioned skills, it's basically already too late to start.

Cave Story was made by 1 guy in his free time and he had no prior musical experience.
Just start making a game, collaborate if youre too lazy to learn multiple skills.

>You have to learn coding
Modern game engines abstract that for you.
>you have to learn writing
The best games are the ones where the players make their own story, writing is only needed for descriptions of mechanics. Which anyone with a high school degree should be able to do.
>you have to learn how to make music
>you have to learn how to do art
Plenty of free resources online.
>and then you have to learn how to sell your game which requires learning marketing and socializing skills.
Having industry connections and/or getting lucky are more important. Otherwise just throw it up on Steam and shill it on /agdg/
>You're telling me that in order to make a single game all by yourself, you need to spend decades learning all these other skills to a competent level beforehand?
Nobody is saying this.

>You have to learn coding
Hard, but not too hard.
>writing
Optional. Just think of cool things you like, take two or three, mix them. Think Doom - guns, demons and tech. Unless, of course, you plan something like Planescape Torment.
>you have to learn how to make music
Yes, this requires talent. Alternatively - use classic genre music fitting the mood or Alice Cooper songs.
>you have to learn how to do art
Yes. Second main skill together with programming. You don't have to be the very skillfull, but some skill you'll have to develop.
>then you have to learn how to sell your game which requires learning marketing and socializing skills.
Optional.

Don't forget, even after doing all this solo work your piece of shit game will most likely get completely lost in the flood of shovelware and these skills might never amount to anything worthwhile. It's so fucking intimidating.
