Why the fuck do Switch cartridges have loading times now? I thought the whole point of not using discs was no loading time.

I can't even name a PS1 game that has long load times. The first game I remember that took forever to load was that Crash game on PS2.

>that Crash game on PS2.
This was due to a programming error, it's completely gone in the greatest hits release. PS1 games couldn't load for very long because it only has 3MB of RAM. How long do you think it would take to fill that at 300kb/s? It's a fantasy that PS1 games have exorbitant load times. Just pure console warrior cope over the 64 failing and shitting the bed.

speaking of Crash, CTR has annoying loading times where the game suddenly goes silent as you watch a checkered flag waving in the breeze.

>11 seconds is supposed to be an exorbitant load time
hah
There was a game called Untold Legends on PSP that literally had like 30-40 second load screens every single time you changed areas.
....I put up with it because the game was a pretty fun diablo clone

Nintendo had a point, can you imagine playing OoT on PS1, with loading screens lasting several minutes every time you leave or enter an area? Jesus Christ.

Switch 2 use SD express by default, it should be fast enough to load times being non issue in most games.

Anything that takes too much time is pure dev fault.

I've been charting load times of PS1 games as sort of a hobby, it's generally the frequency & lack of disguising it that becomes an issue rather than the length itself. Usually they are 6-8 seconds on average, some lower-quality games can go up to 12 seconds but even that's rare. 6 seconds isn't bad to load a level but when you're constantly switching menu options that's when it gets annoying.

The only really bad one I've found was in THPS2, which can take upwards of 30 seconds on a static screen to load a custom park & custom skater. Think loading stuff from a Memory card is slower then a disk.
