There is no reason to buy modern western games on launch. They all launch in a worse, more expensive state than they'll be in 5 years later.
Everything needs years of patches and DLC now to feel complete, why not get it for $5 when it's finally done?
Even Japanese games are getting to this with the way MHWilds launched, but sadly some are completely dropped afterwards like DD2.

Even indie devs have started doing it. I have several indie games that I bought to support the creator, but am waiting to play because they keep fixing issues and adding new content. I want to play a complete game, not come back to the same game over and over again for 20 minutes of new content.

The devs are Ukrainian which are notoriously faggots and the game is worse than SoC. Once you realize a life is nonexistent and the zone is just your average open world, empty slop you get bored. I had about 60 hours into the game and dropped it. Luckily it was on gamepass so I didn’t have to give the devs money. I also think they’re overly sensitive for patching over the USSR content in their other games.

for vanilla, shadow of chernobyl
for mods, there's a lot. anomaly if you just want a big sandbox, true stalker if you like a story, lost alpha if you want to get an idea of weird alpha build stuff. there's so many that all do different things, it takes a bit of research to see what you might like

AI is abysmal, on the same level as Ubislop.
Coming from the franchise that made the best AI in gamedev history this is inexcusable.
Hard to recommend it when Anomaly, an enthusiast mod or a 13yo game STILL utterly MOGS it.

Alife now tracks Stalkers with their own objectives and consequences for said objectives such as running into mutants or bandits. But so far that's about it. Its there and it works, but it still has a bit to be added upon which the devs are committed to doing.
