I know the feel. Autists of his type will often walk on eggshells but still let some of their actual feelings out from time to time, and if those actual feelings can be construed as rude, they'll try to backpedal or smooth over any possible damage that was caused by what they said. I still do it sometimes but I've learned to give less of a shit since most people just don't really care. And sometimes you really do just need to tell someone who's annoying you and others to shut the fuck up.
