Super Mario 64 is a much better game than Super Mario World and its not even close. OoT/ALttP are pretty even, perfectly sound arguments for both. I will never understand what people like about FFVII compared to the earlier games.

Most boomers who played pre-VII FFs basically just saw it as just an art style change since the core ATB gameplay was still the same
The ones who came and shat their pants about it were kiddos who hadn't played an RPG, or possibly any vidya, before VII
Meanwhile SM64 is a fundamentally different game than 2D Mario and wasn't really compared to it, while OoT was seen as basically just being ALTTP but with its mechanics changed to work in 3D
