The characters in the game reference sin many times, so it should just be part of their religion. Toby wants to treat the Hometown church as a church, and their beliefs as a religion, but he doesn't want to commit to what that entails, because it might make gay people feel unworshipped. Because Toby's true religion is to bow down and worship the LGBT. So in reality, the Hometown church and religion is more of a study circle or community center where they talk about old legends they're fans of, there's no real spirituality or authority to it. It doesn't even feel like they really believe in the legends.

I thought "they" were a really interesting protagonist with a great design, backstoey, and personality, so I went online to post some of my analyses of "them" and got flamed because I used masculine pronouns to describe "them", even here.
