Even within it's generation Pokemon has always graphically looked like ass from a technical perspective compared to other rpgs. Magi Nation mogged Pokemon rgb. Compare any town in Pokemon R/S to the first town in Golden Sun.

You're point is correct in that Pokemon has always had dogshit graphics, but comparing to Golden Sun is a bit unfair: back then nothing else could compare to Golden Sun. I remember seeing screenshots of it in a magazine and couldn't believe it was real.
