Seriously, why is this such a common as hell recurrence when a game reaches a trilogy??

Are devs usually just burned out by the 3rd game?

Both DKC and MMX were cases where the developers were working on the next big thing (DK64/MMX4) and the third game had to be made by a side team/completely outsourced.

The first game leaves even the devs wanting for more. There's tons of stuff that didn't make it into 1, but they are enthusiastic about realizing those unused ideas in 2.
3 is usually the point where a few key staff members drop out and those who stay are just going through the motions after blowing their load on 2.

No but I really think most tracks loop way too early. That's ONE thing I'll give X1 & X3, most of their tracks were pretty lengthy, not X2 though.

After almost 30 years of playing this game, I still don't know anything about the story, who the fuck is X? Is he the same as Megaman or a completely different robot? I know Megaman X is like 100 years in the future from Megaman or something that's why Dr. Light is dead and left those capsules. Are all humans dead in Megaman X?
